replacement screens is a great idea.used dashes are 200 plusmines very strange steve, there are a few very small cracks that you cant see in the picture, and the two main ones are very different in terms of the way they have cracked.iv ordered a new screen now as I finally sourced the one iv been after, ill see if the cracks continue or if they stop.i don't understand how in the years my father owned the bike its was perfect,a few weeks in my ownership a crack appeared.and now another months later.nothings changed in terms of care for the bike.it never gets left outside.we should all join forces against ducati for replacements.lol
Thread resurrection! My under 2 years of age, 848 Evo was booked in at a dealer today for the throttle action to be looked at. So I got it out of the garage where I keep it & rode it back to the house, left it outside all afternoon as we had a builder in before I could put it away. Uncovered it this morning & the dash has crazy paving right over the speed display. Dealer is doubtful that it's warranty? Bike doesn't have a double screen btw
We need someone in the plastics industry who could cost some replacements. Ducati are clearly not interested in offering a spares solution. The fact the Pani is having the same issues shows the same flaws still exist in the materials. I would pay decent money for a new front, and i think many others would too so there has to be a marketing oppurtunity for someone with the right contacts to get them made..
If anyone has any pics of the front half of the dash from both sides i have contacted a company near me who says they could probably make it but need to see it's design from both sides to give a rough cost price on a batch.
I'm stuck at work so cant help with photo's but would be interested on adding me name to the list if this goes live... Mine went a while back, no db screen & it seemed to happen overnight.
Well i think it will be hard to make this happen. I sent a few external pics and had a chat to explain the conrteuction with a company and he said the front is at least 3 parts so 3 moulds needed. Moulds can easily run into 2 or 3 grand even for a fairly basic design so could easily spend £5k getting to that point. Once you have the moulds each one would be probably be only £10 to make but to recover your outlay you would need to be confident to shift at least 100 at about £60 or 70 each. The costs of the moulds could easily be higher when they see them in the flesh. If you do bigger production runs to lower the cost in theory then they need to build stronger moulds which cost even more. Would i pay £60 or 70 for a screen, yep. Would i stump up more than the value of the bike in the hope of selling them just to get one for myself. Probably not as my cracking so far is confined to the very edge of the screen.
I now of bikes over here that have had melted clocks but not cracked. Cheap aftermaret screens do magnify the suns rays. The likes of " zero gravity " are the way to go.
both 1199s hadgen dp screens and the 1198 had a rs screen. just seems to be a fault that isn't being looked at and consists throughout the range. this is e worst 1199 one. ducati dealer has been made aware but nothing has been done yet after about 5 weeks....
Asked about a warranty claim on mine & was asked if I was sure I hadn't dropped something on it?!!! The dealer claimed not to have heard of it before but will ask Ducati UK
It also happens on the 749 999. I might be down to the varying shrinkage rates of the different plastics when the dash is cooling down, after being exposed to hi temps.
I tried the Ducati uk route when the cracks first appeared on mine. I was reliably told that they have spare fronts by a dealer but they blanked me completely. Not even a reply to say no. Bike was 2 months outside of warranty then.
hahahaha ducati said exactly the same to the owner of that dash, must be told to say that as my father has first hand seen boxes of these cracked dashes as a main dealers being thrown out due to cracks.the guy actually showed my father through the box. mines a 1098 so years out of warranty but if I owned a 1199 and the above dash was mine I would be going mental down the supplying dealers if it was brushed under carpet. not what you expect on a 16k bike!!!!!!!
I have it on my 1098s nothing you can do about it. Ducati will not supply fronts and the whole dash to buy just for the front is not cost effective so I have got used to it now, I just see it as another Ducati qwerk. Lets face it everyone in the biking fraternity knows about the hassle us die hard Ducati owners put ourselves through lol. Same old jokes every time I meet up with my mates on their Jap bikes "started ok this morning then" all laugh. But who's bike do the public crowd round when we turn up at the coast I rest my case.
when I had my sp1 I was aware of this problem which was caused mostly by db screens and suns rays. it can happen with standard screens but the db tended to melt the face on the Honda screen.seems its not just ducati eh ?
Bumpity bump A relatively easy and cost effective way to replace a cracked dash New to 1098S ownership - DIY cracked dash repair - Page 2 - ducati.org forum | the home for ducati owners and enthusiasts
Brilliant! Good to see people spending so much time & effort to sort stuff like this out rather than shelling out stupid money for a replacement.
