  6. Ever so slight thread hijack.... but it is swing arm design related so only just :)

I am in the design phase for a 2V 1098 framed track bike and wanted to get some thoughts / facts before i took too many decisions....

Main issue is what swing arm do i use. I currently have a 1098 swing arm and just need 848 hub and 5.5 inch wheel, BUT I want to have a linear shock rate. Also wanted to have the lightest option available (on a tight budget). So thinking my options are:

    1. Use standard 848/1098 set up but buy new shock and linkage in the future
    2. Use 848/1098 swingarm BUT weld/bolt an arm to the swing arm to use an inline shock bolted to the valve cover (see below)
    3. Use a 999 swingarm with a shock mount support welded to it so it looks like the Peirbon set up (also below)
So, to help make the decision, I have 2 questions ........ that I know about!
    • How much lighter is the later 999 swing arm compared to the 848/1098
    • Does the 999 swing arm "bolt on" to the frame/case of the 848/1098

Oh and has anyone done anything like this before?!? Lots of 999s with single sided arms but only the Durbahn 1098 with a double sided arm which saved 3.5KGs that i can find. Thoughts appreciated :)

How i'd mount the inline shock on the cases for options 2 and 3. 00 Duc Shock Mount 1.jpg
