Bradders , I know exactly how you feel , my RX7GP has virtually every vent and aerofoil held on with super glue , and that visor holding mechanism , don't get me started . I must admit though , the vent systems work well and together with a visor insert fogging up just never happens . would I buy another one ? more than likely yes I'm an Aria victim
I thought that they weren't allowed on track until last weekend at Snetterton when a MSV instructor rocked up on the sighting laps with one on.
I've got two Sharks Carbon Pro RR and the previous carbon jobbie which I really like but I find the cut out for the ears is always tight, so much so that I can't wear my moulded earplugs as after 20 minutes it gets bloody painful. I got a carbon X-Lite last week and having worn it twice I can safely say I love it.
Love my Arais, had about six or seven Rx7 corsair, still use three of them now, smashed up four or more and have always felt they have saved me! It's odd that some of them are agro free and others had side pods by the boat load and vents replaced too yet others no problem, I am always ripping the visor off for cleaning, I do have a collection of spares for them so maybe that's not a good thing. They fit me perfect that's the thing, I forget I have it on and am happy all day long. Don't know what Id have if not the RX7s, maybe an AGV.
I have the arai chaser Found it the easiest system to change visors no problems with it and it crashed well too No dents, scratches only to the visor and the air vent in visor came out and the chin vent got pushed in Stayed put and never moved when riding fast either
Yes totally agree , I bought one last year , really good lid but I think the Aria has a better vent system
Good point - the real test of a helmet is when you crash and having seen the scuff marks all over my Arai helmet and visor after a major off I would be reluctant to wear anything else.
Fella, I can show you sub £100 helmets that have stood up to 100 mph off and and another which was fine after a 50 mph 10ft highside landing and tuck Tbh my hjc 99.99 lid I use on track is quieter, held togter better (cple seasons and been down the road in it) and only lacks in internal quality and paint finish
Sounds like you have done a lot more crash testing than me! I have only put Arai to the real test so can not comment on others but it is good to know that cheaper lids are up to the job.
Racing does that Rx, its also why I dont normally spend loads on lids. If its gold acu its good enough lol
He's doing really well actually, other than he's laid flat on his back in a neck and back brace for the next 7 weeks but very lucky that he wasn't paralised.
Yes, hope your mate recovers quickly Drinky and it does not affect his love of bikes Anyhow...helmets, After 4 or 5 Arai helmets and breaking a few of the side pods, I vowed I'd never buy another until they re-designed the visor mechanism, its ancient and time they justified their exorbitant prices with a complete re-design. And that "Pro-shade" system they are trying to flog for 100 quid is a pile of sh1te!! :Vomit::Vomit: I've also used Shoei's over the years as well, going back to an early Wayne Gardner replica in the 90's, I've had 5 or 6 Shoei's so have had a good chance to compare both helmet brands and see how they have both evolved ( or not as in Arai's case ) and to my mind the mounting method, visor mechanism and visor on the Shoei's are light years ahead of Arai's. I've currently got a Shoei XR1100 and a Neotec for touring, very happy with both. Best quality and engineered helmet manufacturer in the world? - Shoei, no doubt about it. Poucher....( awaits incoming flak! )
And therein lays the nub of the issue. What sort of head do you have ? Every bike show I go to I try helmets on 'till the girlfriend gets well and truly fed up and what do I do ? Buy another bloody Shoei Xspirit II ! Stick with what you know Bradders. Andy
