  9. Sounds to me, reading posts recently on this forum, lots have already abandoned the meaning of being a biker. Go peacefully with your cocoa.

  12. The EU has required all sorts of stuff to be built into ECU's for some time now. Big Brother is just around the corner.

  13. Wherever did you get this idea ?

We are serfs of the state, always have been and always will be.

  15. Brrrrr :Cyclops:

  16. I'd be willing to bet that part of future ECU's would be an interrogation port that would give plod / interested parties access to maximum speeds etc.
And before people start suggesting the best supermarket in which to purchase my family sized tin foil, they already retrospectively nick people through youtube etc.

  17. They will only ever nick the foolish this way :)

  18. This is why the EU is continuing to push its type approval agenda. As things stand surveillance ECUs would be a legal requirement on new machines only and could be removed after sale. Which is what we do already when reprogramming ECUs to alter fuelling, remove emissions restrictions etc. The EU would like to outlaw all "customising" which would make it illegal to remove, replace or augment any OE part, including software. If they manage this there will be no limit to the restrictions they can impose at point of manufacture, not only on bike design and performance parameters, but on how they are ridden. I'm sure the trend for designed-in parts catalogue customising anticipates this legislation.
I'm also sure the only thing currently stopping big brother is the size and economic worth of the after-market industry in Europe. Therefore we owe it to ourselves and future generations of bikers to support that industry by modifying like mad and building as many specials as we can and making them as naughty as possible. At least that's my excuse..
