I trust you realise that despite it saying 916 on the side and the factory designation being 916SPS, the engine is actually 996cc?

I have OEM black mirrors which I'd gladly swap for red mirrors if anyone's interested..!

 

Perhaps not well known is the black mirrors as delivered on a 2002 748 or 998 have different part numbers than a 2001 or older model. The 2002 mirrors are “blacker” and much less “matte” with a smoother finish. Plus they are less money.

I recently installed a new set of the later versions on my 01 748S.

 

Let's park the bike for one minute and discuss that wonderful mk11 Golf Gti, the eighties with all those exciting Hot Hatchbacks made available to all the young dudes.

 

What's the story with the forks on the 916 SPS models, were OHLINS an upgrade from the factory, some were fitted and some not? Was it just the later models in the run?

 

I believe Ohlins forks were only on later 996SPS.

 

Up to and inc 99 - Showa.
2000 had Ohlins front as std.

 

Buy a pair of black ones, then you can change as you wish!

 

Once serviced and set up right, these Showa forks are as good as Ohlins.
