V4 Article About Us V4 Recalls

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Faith, May 2, 2018.

  1. Back in work Thursday. If I wasn’t so mind numbingly knackered after having fun last week, I’d have thought to ask today, sorry bud. Andy

  2. @vectorzero, there are currently 5 revisions/updates/recalls, call them what you will.
Modification to the inner nose cone to improve airflow over the radiator
Replacement of an 'O' ring in the tank safety valve and the cap breather
ECU software update to cut engine to 2 cylinders for prolonged tickover (over 30 seconds)
    Modification to tail tidy
Replacement of all 3 of the master cylinder fluid reservoir expansion bladders and a part in the clutch slave cylinder. Andy

  7. It’s designed to meet vehicle construction legislation not be a work of art. Sadly you can’t have one with the other out of the factory. Andy

  8. I must be one of the lucky ones....owned my first gen rsv4 factory for.....8 years now (went out on it last night to get the suspension set up) and it runs better than ever (says me holding on to the large wooden desk im sitting at...)

Seriously the chocolate engines were limited to a batch where Aprilia sourced the con rods (at the time) from an alternative manufacturer. Mines been brilliant, love it, but, ive spent a fair bit on preventative maintenance/upgrades which i believe has stood it in good stead. Last valve clearance only 3 were out of spec. I cant find anything that id really want to replace it with its that good...moreso now as the ride home last night although a bit damp felt a load better!!

  9. As somone has "agreed" just - ill say thats its completed another sterling trip to the TT and ran perfectly, though - quite literally torrential rain from Bristol to Birmingham (i assumed being italian something would stop working) but no...its been serviced, cleaned and this weekend will be pulling the tank and airbox for a "top of the engine" clean.

  10. Im wondering how long before the oil cooler recall hits the UK. There have been a couple of well documented cases online of oil cooler failures covering the rear tyre in engine oil, thankfully with no accident or injury as a result. It seems Ducati have responded (at least in the US) as there is a modified oil cooler design where the outlet port on the LH side has been braced for added strength. There is no change to the part number as yet and I am surprised the UK dealers seem unaware of it, since at least in one of the cases it was a UK owner who suffered the failure/s.

Here is a pic of the offending area where the boss cracks and weeps oil and the second showing the new bolstered design. I think it's clear from these two images that Ducati have responded (see US recall notice https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/recall/ducati-panigale-v4-recall/), so if in the event yours fails you need to ensure they fit the new style part onto your bike under warranty.

  11. It was me who has had 2x oil cooler's fail (and 2x water pump seals)
first time at this years TT when I was going over the mountain, lucky it didn't result in something VERY serious. Then had the it fail again a couple of months back. I rejected the v4s as a result as I lost all confidence in the bike after very nearly coming a cropper!
Each incident was scary to say the least! :(

  15. Hi Chillo. I'd say you had a/some very lucky escape/s. I have already been in touch with two UK dealers and one of them is going to be taking it up with Ducati UK. The US recall states that 1663 bikes are affected, so looking at the images, anyone with that design of oil cooler on their bikes should be entitled to a new oil cooler under warranty of the new type design. I think it is only a matter of time before the recall is extended worldwide and more importantly Ducati are changing all affected VIN number oil coolers regardless of whether they show signs of leaking or not.....

"Panigale V4 models that show signs of oil leakage should not be ridden, but Ducati says models not showing any signs of oil leaks can be ridden to the dealership, but only at low rpms."

I am hoping to get a response from the dealer in the next few days and swap over my existing oil cooler for a new one.

Here is another article on the recall:

  16. No recall for the mirrors then? In so far as you can’t see anything out of them. Can’t imagine Ferrari or Lamborghini selling their cars to people and saying don’t worry about the useless mirrors; to potentiall buyers.

  17. Jeez, glad you didn't come a cropper. Especially the 2nd shot. Any sniff of lean on a quick left hander and you'd have been off.... Phew!

I'll check mine when I get home. I've done a couple of track days now and it's run in with no dubious signs of failure anywhere. Thanks for the heads up :upyeah:

  18. Am thinking of getting a V4 so was wondering how the water pump seals got resolved? Did the dealer simply replace them and if so did they give any explanation? Was there any investigation done to ascertain the root cause of the failures in the same way Ducati did with the leaking oil cooler?

  19. Dealer just simply replaced the complete pump along with the leaking seal, I specifically asked if it was an updated part and was told the part number is unchanged -so no! :(

  20. Thx for that info Chilo.
    In which case....fuck it.
I’ve already binned a previous 1199 down Craners when a rod exited the (race) engine, which then spat oil over my front tyre.
V4 fuel tank and brake recalls?etc I can live with but fluids leaking from oil coolers, water pump seals & cam chain tensioners is completely unacceptable.
I know there are always teething problems but this shit is at a whole new level IMHO.
I’ll stick with my current 1199 (with Carillo rods) until the V4 is at least 2 years old.
    Better the devil I know.
