Atlantic Crossing

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Ivor, Mar 19, 2022.

  1. I'm reasonably fit, been training for 18 months so far, do a bit of sailing and so I'm good with navigation, I'm told, it's a mind over matter challenge...

  2. It's sounds like a breeze in the park, aviation is your better bet but all the best with this epic journey.

  4. Boats are designed to float, flying machines defy all logic ( something to do with little creatures called 'bernoillis' jumping on and off wings)...I'll stick with rowing

  5. I admire you for even
considering rowing the Atlantic at any time but I believe you should reconsider setting out in December. Many years ago I experienced some really frightening weather at this time of year when I was a merchant seamen.Whatever you decide to do I wish you good luck Ivor in your enterprise.

  8. The Titanic was a ship, not a boat of course

  9. Brilliant project Ivor! :upyeah:

I guess part of the fitness prep involves iron diet before and during the crossing?

  11. I’m very impressed. I’m a swimmer, rowing wouldn’t be good for my back, so I’ve got the channel swim on the horizon. If there’s a floating hotel I can stay in every 50 miles on the Atlantic, I’ll swim that too!

Please do keep us all updated.

  12. How fast do you swim?

  13. Well behind, like about 100 miles on dry land...

  18. Yep, I've been swimming for years. Normally swim between 2-4k a day, and only stop because I run out of time!
