Cheers guys, it does look high but just compare the seat height to the 748 in the background, the actual seat height is near as damn it the same as the stock height. It looks higher because the seat unit is much more slender and there are no exhausts underneath it
Well I have started the dry build properly now and have had a productive day today, I fitted the Brakes and rearsets, unfortunately the rear brake lever just fouls the exhaust so I'm going to have to grind a little off the bottom of it. Then I settled on a final position for the Shorai Battery I was planning on making an Aluminium or Carbon box for it but it sits there perfectly as it is, all it will need is a rubber strap to stop it moving around. I have also settled on a position for the ECU It sits really nicely in the new rear subframe Mark has made for me, I will have some tangs welded onto the frame when its all stripped down for de-lugging and smoothing before its powdercoated. Once I had the ECU location sorted I started to run the loom back out to see how much modification it needs. Henry helped... I think I will be able to use around 80% of the loom 'as is' which will make my life a hell of a lot easier, I also think I should be able to hide most of it fairly easily too, either in the tail or in the alcove underneath the 999 Tank. I think I'm going to make up a fibreglass undertray for the seat to hide everything in the tail and keep it all dry. Unfortunately its never going to look as clean as an Air-cooled lump but I reckon it will still look pretty tidy once finished. The next challenge is to try to chop up the front half of the loom to wire in the Acewell dash, wish me luck...
Maybe, its not touching the cylinders and there will be plenty of airflow through there. Certainly more than the stock position. I will have to keep an eye on it though. There is nowhere else I can put it without changing to an expensive rc style battery.
Nice - I've run a battery in the 'V' with no issues. If there is any concern a small duct to feed air to it whilst on the move would help. Looking forwards to its return to finish tabs etc.
Cheers, I was thinking about some stick on insulation in key areas but I hadn't considered ceramic coating. I will look into it
They are just up the road from me in Abingdon, considering getting the 1000 sds exhaust done and use zircoflex on the 749
Looking good mate. Where are you going to fit the expansion bottle for the rad? I used a monster one which sits where you have fitted your battery. Are you fitting a steering damper....... I had a mad head shake the other day and was glad I fitted one tbh. Can't wait to see your clocks go on. That's next on my list.
I'm using a 916 expansion bottle mounted behind the headstock, I have a 916 radiator to go with it as well. The clocks are the next challenge, I have the wiring diagrams and the front half of the loom marked up ready to go. Fingers crossed I will get them powered up this weekend. As for a steering damper I hadn't planned on fitting one tbh, i'm going to play that one by ear...
Best get a spare (or two) then... As for the battery, if fitting in the 'V' it might be an idea to make a tray that doesn't actually sit on the engine casings, rather suspended slightly above to reduce the heat on the battery, that and duct some air to it? Looking good though.
I do have a spare, I bought 2 on ebay accidentally lol I have some 3mm ally sheet, which I was going to box the battery in with, it will be easy enough to make up a little tray with it. I have some adhesive insulation to go on it too.
i don't know what your thinking of doing with your air box or cone filters but I'm finding the cone filters are defining on full throttle.
I'm using cone filters, I've used ITG and pipercross filters in the past with no problems, what are you using?
