not done Pete's route before, which looks more interesting than the usual blatt 3/4 mway and get there quick as poss. From previous form, off chunnel, piping rain, soaking = more stops, get there at least 2hrs late about 7, into bar for 'a quick one then shower and change' quick one ends about 930, showers change bar and food until 2am. Repeat
I notice that the Nurburgring Nordschleife has started experimenting with "motorcycle only" days, one of which is today (20 May) and there is another one in June. Perhaps if this is popular and successful they will put more bike days into the calendar. I must say I think this is a very good idea; ordinarily traffic is mixed, which in my opinion adds to the danger. The ticket price for this year is 100 Euros for 4 laps, apparently, so approx. £20 per lap or £1 per kilometre on track.
righto. Mrs wants to come but can't get the Friday off, so looking like I will have to make my own way there via the fastest route in the evening. Planning on 1830 tunnel latest then thwap across to Cochem. See you fellas in the bar Coming back as planned. So have asked hotel to change my booking and will then book the chunnel.
Hi guys I'm not going to be coming on this trip after all I'm afraid waynem325 ... I have a booking at Hotel Karl Noss & Gästehaus Friedrichs with bike parking if you'd like it?
Total shame mate. Is that absolutely definite? I think I'll be okay with my accommodation - I may make contact with them as I've had no response after I received booking confirmation from the website I used to book with. I could ask a friend if he'd be interested, assuming that a gsxr1000 is acceptable? Will text him this eve and see if he's up for it? Pete1950 - are you still going?
'Fraid so. I'll hang onto my room booking for now just in case anyone wants it - I can cancel it nearer the time if not
Yes, definitely going. Tunnel & hotel booked, as stated in this thread. Real shame about Dave - maybe some other time.
Pete- Dave had previously mentioned that he was going, but now isn't. I only asked you in case you had a change in circumstance which meant you couldn't go. I may be wrong but currently it will be you and me travelling there together on the Friday, and bradders joining in the evening, with wifey. (unless his cunning bears fruit?) I've mentioned the trip to my friend, who is looking in to getting time off.
Just to remind you what the plan is: Friday 22 August - tunnel 10am, ride (free) motorways via Dunkerque - Lille - Tournai - Mons - Charleroi - Namur - Huy. From Huy on local road 66 to Stavelot, then Malmedy - Stadtkyll - Kelberg - Cochem. Stay in hotel in Cochem 3 nights. Saturday 23 August - tour the Hunsruck, ferry boat across the Rhine, around the Taunus, motorway A48 from Koblenz back to Cochem. Sunday 24 August - up to the Nurburgring, laps of the Nordschleife if desired, tour the Eifel. Monday 25 August - Cochem local roads to Daun - Gerolstein - Prum - Clervaux - Bastogne - Marche-en-Famenne - Namur. Then motorway via Lille - Dunkerque - Calais and tunnel home.
Cool with me too. I need to get a map and plot the route. Have you both booked the chunnel yet? I may need to get cracking? I spoke to my friend earlier and he's definitely interested - he's got to enquire about time off work, so I've sent him a link to this thread to inspire his persistence! (thanks Pete for reminding us of the route)
Booked, can't wait any longer, cost already gone up £30! Her indoors will have to understand 1020 out, 1840 back Anyone else coming ? @figaro ? Wayne, up to you but if poss staying at same place always makes things easier for food, drink, evening entertainment
