  1. So how many nights are you all staying?

I'm now toying with the idea of this, I reckon I can go Saturday morning early, bomb down to Folkestone and head across in one hit, it's about 500 odd miles.

Technically I can have Saturday until Tuesday /Wednesday off work according to the holiday calendar but still need to check with hr tomorrow

  2. If you go via the brussels ring road early hours, easy 4 hrs from Calais. I say that as I got to 40 miles south of munich in less than 6

  3. Yeh I reckon so, I'd have to do the whole thing in one hit, Nottingham to Folkestone then Calais to Cochem , done it plenty of times before to Barweiler so it's about the same. Big day but doable

  4. Why not do hull - zeebrugge? Dunno if that is quicker...there were room last time i looked :upyeah:

  5. It's about a billion quid, I just looked.

I'm afraid this would be budget trip stylee if I pull it off, the NRA would go nuts if it cost me too much as we're a bit strapped at the moment.

Still, beer and fags are cheap in Germany ......

  6. Jump along fella, none of us know each other so sure to be full of laughs ;)

  7. We're coming back Monday, which is BH

  8. If you're on a budget check this place out... http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/alt...iwAWren4bJ1mBflq7KlICMHWbybf_5BX8aAuzB8P8HAQ
Its where I'm staying and its costing me about £120 for the duration. Not sure if I should be concerned about the pink building but as long as I can sleep, shower and have German sausage in the mornings I'll be a happy man!
Hotel noss was fully booked when I tried to book, but there are plenty of hotels in the area so you'll be spoilt for choice if pink isn't your colour?

  9. I'd just like to point out that I am in no way connected to the national rifle association and nor do I give a shit if they don't want me going on this trip......bloody predictive text :)

The MRS would however go nuts :)

  10. Cheers, I'll have a look.

That place @Pete1950 has listed further up isn't badly priced, looks like they might have a secure garage for parking (although waiting on confirmation) and it's about £155 for the 3 nights.

Problem I now have is whether I can get the Friday off instead of the Wednesday following week. Saturday to Tuesday isn't a problem but by the time I'd get there you lot would have been there a day already and only have two nights left.

Let me see what I can do, I'll also check that the NRA are happy I go, then I'll ask the mrs ;)

be careful what you ask for.

  12. I think they've got a clay pigeon shoot in Normandy next weekend - tell them you're going to that, then sneak away when no one is looking....

  13. To be fair mate - if they give me the floor or a clicky bed I doubt I'd notice what sausage they gave me!

  14. Brussels would involve heading north then coming south again - extra miles for no advantage. Not the way I would go, even if I was in a hurry.

  15. More the merrier, within reason. Plan for Saturday (if others agree) is to do some touring around the prettier parts of the Hunsruck, the Taunus, and the Westerwald including ferry crossing the Rhine, plus some blasts on unrestricted German autobahns. Plan for Sunday is to take in the Hohe Eifel including the Nurburgring. All weather permitting, of course. Monday heading for home via Luxemburg - whatever the weather. Are you still toying?

  16. If anyone is heading into Germany via Vervier and the E42, please be aware that it is F1 next weekend at Spa, so there will be a fair plod presence and it would be advisable to keep a keen eye out. Not normally a big issue traffic wise re the F1 as that is managed nicely to keep E42 all clear. Also the German Politzei have been putting up a fair few mobile gatso and stop checks near the borders.

  17. Good point; thanks for mentioning it. I had planned to pass very near the Spa circuit on what will be Friday free practice for the F1 Grand Prix, which may hold us up a bit. Now reconsidering.

It might be better to swap over our route out and route back. So the route out on Friday becomes:
    [Autoroute from Calais - ] - Namur - Bastogne - Clervaux (Lux) - Prum - Gerolstein - Daun - Cochem.
And the route back on Monday (after the F1 lot have gone) becomes:
    Cochem - Stadtkyll - Malmedy - Huy - [- autoroute to Calais].

  18. Can we pop in for a watch? Free practice, maybe free entry :)

The place pete, dave and I are staying at has a garage, cant remember whats its costing me?!! But cochem nice place so any should be fine...and Wayne will be waking up TO a German sausage in that place for sure. Wax yer legs Wayne, they will kmow your not a german bird then ;)

  19. €193 so at current rate about £155
