The test that I did yesterday, at Cheltenham, involved doing the test three times. Once with a patch over left eye, then again with the patch over right eye, and finally, with no patch. The printed scans output were pretty consistent, with a field loss to my lower left side in all of the tests. So, there wasn't a problem that was obvious with just one side. The best result was with no patch, and so the optometrist would not recommend using an eyepatch. Especially when it is is not obvious which eye to patch.
Could you not wear a patch on both eyes? That's how some of the drivers around here seem to drive, you'd be grand living here. Just kidding mate, I feel for you and really really hope your eyesight improves.
The repair time that I was quoted was two years. I'm about 15 months in. I notice improvements myself day to day and so I've still got hope. Anyway the Optometrist that I saw (if you'll forgive the pun!), advised me to try the DVLA test - she didn't say that I'd be wasting my time. It is like a wiring fault but, apparently, the human body can rewire itself!
I don’t know if it’s relevant these days, but when I accepted the damages the insurance companies offered me, I was asked to sign a full and final claim document, which I was happy with at the time. Anyway many many years later, I now suffer with arthritis badly and from lack of movement in my wrist and all the inconvenience this lack of mobility has caused me over years. Anyway the point I’m trying to make is this, these injuries will affect you for the rest of your life, so please bare this in mind when discussing your compensation with your solicitor. I’m sorry I didn’t.
Yes, I think that the tactic is to draw it out for as long as possible in the hope that you will be close to giving up and settle for a lesser sum. I'm not playing that game and I'll go for the long game - like my sol is. What the sad fools will be too stupid to pick up, is that it has backfired on them already. They lost the chance to settle quickly and for less. They must know my solicitor as this is all that she does. She is a partner in a big practice and is in court most weeks. She has a team of people working for her. All the team do is go for insurance companies. So they sit there congratulating themselves on their cleverness, but forcing my solicitor to go for a bigger and bigger pay out, with both of us despising the company and everyone within it. The sad fact is that it is the policy holders that pay for this BS. If you ever get the sob story from an insurance co saying that have to put up you premium because of he high number of claims, feel zero sympathy for them. They are using your money to pay staff to deliberately f**k people about! And they think it is clever! So, 15 months after the crash and their driver has been prosecuted to which she pleaded guilty - and accepted fault from day one, they still deny everything. They have the police report and access to my medical records (which are huge as I had to post them. They weighed nearly 1kg) but they still play a game with my solicitor (like she is a child) They don't believe that I was riding the bike or that it was damaged (it was scrapped). Of course, they have all of the reports but seem to play childish games in the hope that you'll go away. From my solicitor's lack of surprise by all of this, it is, apparently, the norm. It is an interesting tactic where you rile a climnant up as much as possible - and their solicitor - because you think that it will save you money. I just don't get it....
Motor Insurers are a necessary evil unfortunately. On the whole, quick enough to take your money, damn slow paying out on claims.
I've been banned! The DVLA have woken from their slumbers to write and tell me that I'm banned! I have letters to them to say that following my Optometrist appointment, she has said that I may be able to pass the DVLA eye test - but Specsavers have the contract and they are all shut! I sent a letter to DVLA on Monday. I made it signed for on advice from the PO. That may well rile them - if there is anyone there to answer the door!!
With immediate effect I pressume? Just looked at specsavers and they say they are open for booking appointments but for any needs ring them https://www.specsavers.co.uk/?gclsr...FiPsgR8cmwPjPd6rTsBoC7moQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Yes, they are open for appointments and I guess that I'll need to book one. I think that I'll do this rather than wait for hell to freeze over and the DVLA get back to me!
Far better to pre empt and at least if you get the certificate of ability, you can then photo it and send it via email and speed things up abit?
Just phoned and did get to speak to a human, as they say that they are only taking messages for essential or emergency appointments a the moment. The lady that I spoke to wasn't sure if I count as "emergency or essential", so she will have to seek advice and get back to me.
She did and told me that the branch that I phoned can't do the test! It seems that I have to further afield!
Today, I did the Specsavers eye test. Problem was that the lady couldn't tell me if I passed or failed. She said that they do the test and send the results to DVLA. DVLA decide if you pass or fail, not Specsavers. Useful though, as I now know what the test is like - it's flipping sneaky and designed to do your head in - as I'm not seeing any dot flas for ages and I say that this is a bit worrying... until the lady tells me that there is nothing happening just now!
It makes me wonder what proportion of the current driving population would pass the test. There was a couple in Specsavers yesterday, trying on photochromatics. We had to navigate round them in the shop when we finished the eye test in a dedicated room at the back. They had to be guided out of the way by another assistant. I didn't see them drive but they were talking about how good he glasses would be when they drove! I guess that if you work at Specsavers, then some of the stuff you see from the clientele must be quite frightening!
