  1. Ok, well another night of failure :( I will drop you a text in the morning! Also, it is key that I point out I don't have a clue what I am doing, so with this in mind I have left the engine as complete as poss so someone who knows what they are doing can check it out - including leaving the oil still inside (As I thought it may reveal some rocker issues to someone who knows what they are looking for!!) As I haven't been feeling like I have been making progress I thought I would drain this out to give me something to do - I couldn't see any sparkly bits in the oil, but there was quite a bit of swarf build up on the sump plug:

What could this mean? Rockers? Might be worth noting the engine has done 14k and I have zilch service history

  2. Isn't there a magnet test to check if it's chrome from the rockers?

  3. Bugger! I have washed it off now, although it didn't look like a chrome plating - more like metal filings :frown:

  4. Unlikley to be rocker debris (chrome not magnetic). Pullout the oil gauze filter and check that too. More likely gear shavings, not too serious.

  5. Phew!!

  6. I suffer from the same problem, loads of enthusiasm but zero ability, trust me fella, get some help before you break something and it gets properly expensive!

  7. So far it has been fairly straightforward, although when it comes to engine internals I shall pass it on to someone who knows what they are doing :upyeah:

  8. A few shiny bits have arrived over the last couple of days, including this...

Luckily they have come now and gotten me excited about this project again before I roll the bloody thing out into the road and leave it there because of this bloody engine / swingarm bolt

  9. The swarfe could result from the crank bung thingy that comes loose on some bikes. Did on mine but fortunately I put my 916 in for a monty at Snells and it got picked up and sorted. I noted a week before when i did an oil change some swarfe exactly as your shows it.

  10. I will be sending the engine away for someone to look at before it goes back in so hopefully this will be caught in time if this is the case!

  11. You may have someone already lined up for your engine, but I took mine to Ducati John and he stripped it while I waited and it then gave me a good idea as to what work needed doing and of course the cost. I reckon he was about £300 cheaper than anyone else wanted at the time and he did more work.

In my case it was main and big end bearings

  12. My plans were to take it to Tony @ Moto Corse to get a good idea of what needs doing, then weigh up whether it is more economical to do it or swap another engine in :upyeah:

  13. So, alot has happened over the last couple of days!! Cranker V2 Kindly came and gave me some direction, and I set off cutting the bolt... After a few hours of cramp and not really feeling like I was making any progress I decided to involve my old friend 'the angle grinder'!! A stupid idea I know, but the bolt is cut and engine and swingarm out (although I have sacrificed the swingarm!)

About to raise the frame off the engine / swingarm combo!

    Finally separated!

I have also received some more shiny bits over the last few days!

748r Numbered yoke (I know mines not an R but I always thought the numbered plaques looked super sexy ), NOS OEM race seat padding, although I may stick this up for sale if anyone's interested?, and an aluminium plate holder to tidy up the back end!

    IMG_00000153.jpg
And I received these Carbon air tubes courtesy of Cranker!!

Now the engine will be going to someone who knows what they are doing while I do some powder coating, cleaning and sourcing of parts before she goes back together :upyeah:

  15. Thanks :upyeah: I did lose my cool woth the bolt a few times (And I have still got to get the bugger out of the swingarm / engine!) but I will get there in the end I am sure! There is nothing you can't do with an angle grinder
