  2. Yup poor English used in the title I haggled and moaned and got £200 quid off.
Anyhow it wasn't Hill 42 or even Hill 60 as suggested by Ducbird but 'twas Hill 62 at Sanctuary wood that I have visited

  9. Im in that boat at the moment - trying to get a new car for the wifey for the best price possible - ive got outright cash to spend so I don't need finance and thought that would be the best bargaining chip.....it appears not....at the local ford garage before id even finished the sentence "would you do a deal if I paid up front" he cut me short and said no, no deals - price is governed by the net so we cant do that...!

Hopped on to auto trader and on a 20k car the best I could get out of one of them was 100 quid off.!!!! got more to try but no luck at the moment...on a 20k car I was at least hoping to get 500quid off....jeez...some people....

  10. Sadly, the art of haggling is beyond a lot of people.
I love it...for me,it's not about the money,it's the challenge....every deal is exciting, and you never know how it's going to turn out.
I've met people who have absolutely no idea how it's done, and think that slagging the bike/car/whatever I'm selling is the way to chip the price. Bearing in mind I spend forever on accurate descriptions that's never going to cut it with me.Or just saying that something is overpriced will somehow magically get money off....I mean, come on,if you want to get it cheaper I want to be entertained, not bored with your presence.
I feel so sorry for some potential buyers that,if they really have no idea of how to play the game , I take it upon myself to educate them...it's not fair that they'll go through life paying the asking price for everything because no-one bothered to show them how it's done.
Gently explaining that we are not enemies, that no matter what happens no ones going to die,so let's go back to the very beginning and start over, but this time with a smile.
Doesn't always end in a sale but what the hey it's only money, someone will buy it,sooner or later.
    And I'm always learning too.
A dealer in Birmingham wanted £8250 plus the dreaded for an 18 tonne truck that didn't exactly fit my needs, but it had been a long disappointing morning and I didn't want to go home empty handed.
I liked the guy,I liked the truck, and I made sure he knew it wasn't what I really wanted. In the death I just cut to the chase and asked him if there was a deal to be done.
He asked what did I have in mind,I was cheeky and offered £7k and the VAT.
We stood looking at each other in complete silence for about 10 seconds, and then he said,£7100.
I'll be honest,I thought I had him so I just grinned and offered £7k again.
This time,he just smiled and said,"£7100,son...no-one gets it all their own way".
He was right of course,I was being greedy and we shook hands there and then on a truck that I didn't really want.
I had it trapped with London Compliant exhaust,(£5500),and 3 years later I still have that truck. And I've bought two more trucks from him,he's a genuine bloke and he rings me if he gets something in that might suit me.
And I've never forgotten that,"no-one gets it all their own way"....I've said it myself, and quite often it's enough to seal a deal...:D

  11. Well, when i went to collect the car i did say to him.... "you wouldnt budge would you...." to which he replied "well, weve actually lost 1700 quid already! So i couldnt come down any more.... Which did please me.... I did look on ebay last night and i still cant see any as cheap with the mileage that ours has and it was over 6 months ago that we bought it...

He did say he couldnt think why it didnt sell and thought it was the colour, which ironically was the reason i liked it...

  12. A good deal is where both parties are smiling when they conclude it...well done, mate!
