I’m on the hunt for a nice K5 too. Worth noting that the K6 is an identical bike, just different fairing colours. I’m also looking at a couple of K7s too, it’s just trying to find one that has been looked after……for me to then slide down the track
Problem with me : I don’t really like pain much. Sliding down the track sounds fun, just not looking forward to aftermath
Best plan is not to ride beyond your ability. Stay at a pace you are comfortable with then perhaps gradually increase the pace when you feel happy. A trackday is not the place to push yourself beyond your limit to the extent that you slide down the track.
If looking at the k5 gixer, imho get k8 or k9. Will cost the same and a couple of years on for development. Iirc the k7 lost power and torque. My k5 made 170 rwhp with PC5, custom map, performance filter and full factory race system. Rode like a Ducati for torque, you could 3 and 4 gear a whole track easily, and would lift the front in 5th.
OK, IMLO, if you go straight to a 'thou you will become over reliant on the power and not learn corner speed. 600 however you'll be eaten on the straight and held up in the corners. GSXR750 is the way to go until you get pissed of with -75bhp but you'll have learnt plenty. Get the newest you can, major upgrades were in 2008 and 2011.
I had a K6 from brand new, last time I looked the prices had been hyped up. Went to a BMW afterwards, BMW pulled a few Suzuki's apart for inspiration, but it's hardly the copy some people think.
so i've asked for advise, listened to it , looked around ,forgot advise and done deal on gsxr600srad this was delivered to me today.
The fact that there are many more best value for money bikes out there. With better out of the box engine, brakes, suspension and electronics. Take BMW gen3 as example.
So, just to be clear, what you are telling us is that a 2015 - 2019 bike costing £9k to £16k has better engine, brakes, suspension and electronics than a 2005 bike costing £4k to £6k? And you are recommending to the OP that the newer, more expensive bike therefore constitutes better value for money than the older, less expensive bike?
