Best Car Dash Cam?

  1. I don't think that is true anymore.
All my German vehicles are bang on at 30, 50 and 70mph when in a straight line.

  2. I've run these type systems for about 10 years now and one thing is critical.
Get a FAST (we use +95MB/s), DECENT make of memory card. Keep formatting it often ( we do weekly 2/3 hours use per day, plus standby footage).
Keep a 2nd / 3rd card in the vehicle to swap out following an incident so it doesn't get over recorded.

  3. Can’t remember the model but I have a garmin sat nav and it has a built in camera. Not seen the playback on other makes, but you can play back instantly and it shows you moving on the map with speed etc. Only got it as last year someone pulled out from a side road and hit me head on. She admitted full liability but it got me wondering what would have happened should she have not admitted it.

Have been researching this subject for a while for both bike & car. The above system looks good and you can buy a separate set of the very discreet cameras. So one set on bike, one in car and just swap dvr from one to the other.
They’re offering a discount for bike forums too.
Not connected at all to the company.

  5. Just had an email come though telling me money off next base ones in halfords- if this helps anyone

  6. I fitted a Viofo A119 It's easy to use and records up to 2K resolution (Around £75 on eBay) and it is just for the idiots, like yesterday when I happened upon an Astra doing a 3 point turn just around a blind corner on a NSL road.
That proved to me that my ABS is working on the car. If I had managed to T-bone that moronic waste of road space the cam would have helped to explain exactly how it happened.

They are a double edged sward though, either your best friend or worst enemy depending on your own driving.

  7. I ride with one on all the time (olfi 4K action cam) and I switch it to the car when driving into London or on a long trip. I’d like to get a dedicated car one though so I don’t have to switch vehicles all the time.

Lower resolutions make it awful for picking up reg numbers. Fine if you’re a few feet away but you really need a decent one to pick up a reg as good as your eyes can. This is even more relevant in low light situations. You’d be hard pressed to get a moving reg at 20ft on a 720p camera.

  8. But isn't this just feeding the ' where's there's blame there's a claim' culture.
It makes for funny Russian traffic mishap videos but there's a dark underbelly siding up with the insurance companies. Anyone else see this?

  9. I think rather than it being a ‘where there’s a blame there’s a claim’, it’s more a case of ‘don’t pin your shit on me’.

It’s so easy for someone to lie about how the accident happened. I’ve had it when a car turned left into his place of work (from the overtaking lane of the dual carriageway). He claimed I was diving up the inside (quite how that would have worked out I don’t know). Trouble is, he had a work mate claim witness.

A friend of mine came round a corner to another car reversing round the same corner. That driver claimed he was stationary and my mate simply went into the back of him. He even claimed £2k injury compo on that one.

  10. I guess it's a case of each to their own.
It really sickens me the way insurance companies peddle their trade using fear.
If you were to believe their hype people would be falling of ladders, crashing cars, pets getting sick along with a whole plethora of accidents happening hourly, and more importantly each one being disputed.

  11. Snooper-direct do a good range of dash-cams (DVR-5HD)that also double up as speed warning system. I'm still using the DVR-3HD that's now 4years old.

  12. I use the Transcend Drivepro 200 V1 https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-498 At the time i ''Search Engined'' top 5/10 dash cams and this was No.1 at the time, it reduced my insurance by £150...

i could have gone for the next model up but that had GPS and extra stuff on but i thought the police could have the evidence that you could be driving faster/excessive speed that you should without going out and collecting the evidence, having you speeding and the culprit who cause the accident...
