People who retire and say its shit, either lack funds, imagination or interests imo. Go as soon as you can afford to, you never know when your number is up.
Yes but if you only have the state pension you've not much choice, it must be nice to have that problem. Steve
You're 23, and are going to live forever you jammy git !! PS, why are you reading a retirement thread at 23 anyway
By the time you get there dude, retirement age will be 108. Don't worry about it, turn ya fucking hat on the right way round, pull ya jeans up, put ya phone down for >60 seconds and go to the pub !!
Just think. 90% of under 30’s will still be working at 70. 9% will be the whole-life unemployed and the 1% the Rees offs of this world. What a depressing thought
I don't lack funds my various pensions give me a income slightly more than working full-time, I have plenty of interests What I miss is the challenge my job gave me and to some extent I worked with a group of interesting people Anyone retiring early and think it's brilliant review how you feel about it in.2 years
You should have a chat with my wife. She'd put you right. After 12 years of challenging senior management, managing construction projects of £265m and £160m she'd had enough of petty politics and working with "interesting people". If they were that nice and interesting you'd socilaise with them, but I bet you don't. SWMBO is now having a ball just generally pissing about, cooking, going to the gym, going on walks, doing family history, doing lunch with friends and occasionally baby sitting the grandchildren. She's incredibly happy and I'm beyond jealous now.
I'm fortunate enough [despite my own best efforts] to prob be able to retire early in a few years. I just need to finalize a plan for that next phase. I don't want to simply not go to work anymore. I need to retire to......... Seriously considering Spain for the weather and tracks. Prefer the look of Portugal (+cheaper) but less circuits to keep me amused. I'd maybe consider staying in the UK if every summer was like this one....However it isn't.
In the 70s & 80s I was a factory Proj.Eng./CEng in the UK. I spent too much time at work, because that was what was required to do the job properly. In the 90s I was Group CEng. for a FTSE 100 Company that operated and expanded its business worldwide. I had eng. responsibility for 35 large factories around the world at the time, all investing like mad, and an aquisition agenda that kept me on my toes. I spent 280+ days/year away from home overseas, and some more away in UK. After that, I started my own Consultancy. Again, lots of time away from home (and away from my family), incl a year in Syria, months in Turkey and weeks away in UK. My £ savings pot grew modestly (I'm not super wealthy, or greedy). I was intellectually challenged (no...I don't mean I'm stupid ) and spent my days with some very bright and interesting people (many of whom I keep in touch still with). Unfortunately, I also spent my days with (too) many complete knobs. WAAAY too many !!!....and I was a 'Time Pauper' I retired as soon as I could (3 years ago) and now wouldn't have the time for a job. I'm too busy living. I F'kin LOVE being retired...........still
if you dont wanna retire, dont, if its forced on you through some kind of work policy, start yer own business, if its a health issue, then i sympathies, if not, dry yer eyes. plenty have been shafted through their pensions both private and state. (WASPI). some people just dont want to retire, my multimillionaire neighbor in the next unit to me, is well into his seventies, open's up his welding shop every day at 8am, there till the end of the day, then goes off to his farm to manage more shit there. along with a bit of fishing and restoring old bikes he seems to enjoy it, a right gruff fucker. (until yet get to know him). v,generous, gives me tonnes of work. it wouldn't be me tho. i dont have the motivation to be a millionaire, tho i will be financially motivated to work till i drop. many folks my age and younger, dont have access to the state safety nets or guaranteed final salary pensions of the past. many many wont even have a home to release equity on. keep busy, enjoy.
