  1. This afternoon SWMBO asked me what I intended to do with my time when I leave work. I said I intended to travel more on the bike/s around the UK and Europe. She thought it was a good idea. I was amazed :)

  6. Motor home. With garage. Tow small car. See all of Europe and ride the roads you want, when you want. Maybe squeeze in a few trackdays, Spain is littered with them.

It’s almost like I’ve thought about it ;)

  7. When we retired here we had a bike each so my wife was all for it. The bikes have improved over the years, I bought a new Supersport last year and bought her a new Monster for her birthday this year. I have enough smartie points to go out on my bike as much as I want, with or without my wife.
She even wrote a book about the move here and what made us do it, it is called "A red waterproof jacket", but is more a girly book being a sort of romantic adventure.

  9. Tried a motorhome, not the life for a biker at all. The restrictions for them if they are over 3.5 tons are a pain in the arse, and even the most powerful ones struggle up hills.

  10. Agreed plus I can buy an awful lot of fuel and hotel rooms for £30k

  12. But you won’t get 28k of it back’ after a year ;)

  13. Nope. We are like two peas in a pod. Just a shame my side of the pod got all the feed, and his side just hit a splash of water...

  16. I did shift work for 26 years and my plan was to retire at 50 which is next May. I worked in a factory making confectionary and we could take our final salary pension at 50 with penalties for retiring early.
In 2010 I had a horrendous crash on the Island, a French rider hit me head on smashing me to pieces. He was on the wrong side of the road and I was lucky.
I struggled on for 5 years and after operations etc. I left on a disability pension, my employer treated me so well.
2 years ago my claim was settled and and my Solicitor said I may feel a bit lost due to losing my job and the case being settled. It’s only now I understand what he was saying, I seem to have lost my purpose and I do get bored but my injuries limit me to what I can do.
I miss the people at work and I miss the person I was but I don’t miss the night shifts. But I’m lucky to be here and you’re a long time dead, retire as early as you can is what I believe. You don’t know what’s around the corner, my life didn’t quite go to plan but I’m still here and on 7th August my beautiful Panigale 1299 is being delivered!
I’m not sure I will be able to ride her much and everyone thinks I’m mad but I promised myself one when everything was sorted.
I’m sorry for boring you all but this post just struck a cord. Cheers

  17. Pointless buying one for a year, losing £2k on depreciation and spending a £1k (if not more) on insurance. IMO obviously.

  18. Maybe a three wheeler? If you can drive, you can ride :upyeah: Good luck to finding someth8n* that can help replace that drive to finish something :)

Most posting here are very lucky. It’s nothing to do with hard work, it’s circumstance. Whether forces and get a great pension, oil rigging and same, it all boils down to being the last of final salary pension schemes. (Notice most, not all. Some will have had businesses that were successful and other may have inheritance to help things along)

Those who didn’t, shop workers, factory workers in many cases, anyone who started work in the 90’s, will have no idea what it’s like to be faced with achieve of ‘shall I carry on working?’ In their 50’s

  19. Better than spending 10k on hotels IMO. Cheap rental and if you don’t like it, move on :upyeah:
