A. It’s not too bad. I’ve been ploughing lots into it over the past 15 years. B. Most definitely. I’m from Yorkshire and we are like the Scottish but without the sense of generosity. C. Just a couple years older than you.
OK. ... I'm starting to wish I'd put more into a pension, but I've built up a company that I hope to sell.
well, i guess then, the taller you are the longer you have to work. i suppose you will be retiring before me then exe?
That makes complete sense. Has the Scottish government taken that on board? We could learn a lot from those Scotches
not just SCOTS but all Nordic countries when it comes to pensions. but a bad move ElT. this thread could now be intercepted.
dont remember inserting anything in to a Cornish wumin, but, as they say, if you can remember, then you where never there.
Just a question for those that remain active in their 50's in retirement. Are you spending more or less than when you worked the last few years? Just budgeting. I intend having more holidays, so increased cost there. But moving West should mean much lower motor insurance and other London costs. And to be honest, much less time in a pub (next door to my home)... It's further to my garden office than the pub. My Alexa app has just told me I spend £6K a year drinking (networking) or 26 Doughnuts worth of Guinness a week!! If nothing else that's a lot of extra Tax!!
Gone for cheap house (but nice) in a great area of France. Council tax, water costs etc tiny compared to UK. Biggest expense will be visiting family for Christmas or other occasions. Flights for under £100 if planned ahead. Holidays? 3 hours to Pyrenees. 2 hours Atlantic coast, 3 hours med, 5 hours Alps. Tarn Gorge and loads more an easy few hours or even less. Depends what you want but I hate stereotypical hols with airports or ANY flights over two hours. Stops being a holiday when it’s hassle. Got , canoeing, camping, motorcycling, fishing, biking, walking at my door step. 52 and never been so stress free, even with some work to do on the house. Doing majority myself and because “work” is a distant memory after only a few month, feel no pressure. Feel no need to be spending, have the latest motorbike or a flash car. It’s great! Probably looking to be living on much less than half of previous income, with less overhead costs and less waste should be no problem. I think the main thing is picking somewhere you are happy to spend the majority of your time.
Btw it’s raining this morning, so will be wallpaper stripping. Dry after 11 by the forecast. So got a 140 mile round trip planned on the GS, part alongside Dordogne river (heading east inland). Can’t do shit like this at the drop of a hat when working. If you can afford it, stop pissing about. Seen too many lost to cancer, heart attacks etc. just “waiting” for retirement!
