Best Place (world) To Live +50 / Not Working - Opinion, Advice And Discussion

  1. Well I’d have to say the west coast of Ireland, but you have to pick your place wisely. You’ll get a lot more for your money house wise but income tax rates are higher here, as is VAT but these things can be managed. Also there’s a dearth of aircon/heat pump engineers which with global warming & ‘save the planet’ will be required more in the future.

  2. My favourite place is Bora Bora but living there would be boring lol.

  3. Bora Bora is on our list next time we circumnavigate.
Canada was too cold in the winter, Australia is great, but everything that crawls or swims wants to kill us and NZ was just too ....something.
Perhaps I need to look at NZ again, at least the food looks good according to one antipodean pogonophile forum member @NZDave

  4. We absolutely love Ireland and have been many times. I worked with Telecom Éireann back in the 90's out of Sandyford, best fun ever!
The Irish are taxed heavily at every turn, except perhaps business. Ireland is VERY green for a reason..... :)

  9. I work a 4 on 4 off rota and spend most of my time off in Spain. I've been out there for almost 5 years now but still have a house in the UK that the wife lives in when I'm at work. The big issue for me is the weather, the Scottish weather really pisses me off, but when it does shine there's no place I'd rather be. It's such a shame but I get really hacked off when you're stuck indoors in the summer because it's pissing down 90% of the time. I don't bother when it's shitty in the winter as it's supposed to be like that.
For me Spain is great, it's a couple of hours on a plane, the weather is awesome although it's not been great with the flooding recently but that doesn't happen very often and then there's the cost of living which is so cheap if you want it to be.

  18. I'm not great with the Spanish language but I've managed to pick up the odd phrase to allow me to get buy in restaurants. We're in Villamartin, South Costa Blanca which is between Alicante and Murcia. The good thing where we are is that there's a huge British community and very rarely do we need to speak Spanish. The Spanish are really good and if you try and make an effort with the language then they will speak to you in English most of the time. I wish I could say the same about the French, but the least I say about the French I've encountered the better.

  19. It looks like I'd automatically qualify for a residency visa.
The question is why would I need one.... I thought we could move around the EU without any bar!

    This looks nice.

  20. Have you been to Aitutaki in the Cook Islands? My sister used to work for an Australian and South Pacific Islands travel specialist and all her colleagues that have been to both there and Bora Bora prefer Aitutaki.
