I'm thinking a track prepped v2 may fit the bill a treat to be honest. Noise regs May be an issue in UK.
I thought this but he's specifically asking for 'fun', that wouldn't be fun, it'd be terrifying. Fun, financially a bit silly but fun, new 765RS Daytona, the limited retail one. Carbon, enough power for anyone to have a mint crack on, all the bells and whistles with the leccy. 20k
"The AJR TSS350 MK2 is the replica of the 1968 Bultaco TSS350, it is a two-stroke motorcycle very easy to maintain, with spectacular performance that places it at a level of competitiveness impossible to match with a four-stroke. Since its launch in 1994, it has dominated the championships in which it has participated. Now the MK2 version launched in 2019 maintains the essence of the Bultaco, improving reliability and power. The first batch of TSS MK2 has been sold out, but soon we will have for delivery a new batch of motorcycles for which we are already accepting orders. We are keeping the price of € 16,000 for the basic motorcycle, but you can fill out the form to see all the extras and options. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSftsp5x6iPxXIJYlmcX54JHBjqqMTRjuLIo9EpMEQHgmBw2uw/viewform"
For track 'days' can't see much past an HP4 Race. And at under 50k now brand spanking, getting keenly priced when you consider a V4R is 40k with zorst- and you can chuck another ~10k at it getting fully track prepped. The HP4 Race is good to go from the crate. Beautiful detail too. I stared at one for ages at Donington. A lot of dosh though for just fucking about on
I kinda get this. But lack of poke will get tedious when everyone you've just passed come tearing past you again on the straights. My 999R was a lovely balanced bike on track.
Thanks First thing that struck me about those photos is how much riding styles/body position has changed over the years
Has to be an old racing 2 stroke from the seventies/eighties. If you've never experienced the rush of a power band hitting in on a highly tuned stroker going from nothing to max power in the space of little over 2K revs then you just haven't lived. TZ or RG (proper racing one) all the way.
Better tyre & suspension technology and also improved tarmacadam qualities means a much faster lean rate angle.
All immaterial without a real definition of what ‘fun ‘ means. for me, it was aways ringing it’s neck, riding as close to 100% as possible all of the time, chasing much bigger bikes on my 62hp bike and passing everything (pretty much) in corners around the outside. Best fun is doing that with mates who are just the same mentality and no one crashing... now, I’m happy to sometimes get my knee down, have a play and follow mates who used to be considerably slower but now that’s my pace, and occasionally if some knobber almost takes me out get race head on and a bit of red mist and give it back with interest. so for me now, best track bike would be an s1000rr or gixer 1000 or something like that. Or even a v4 turnover. Fast on the straights, enough for the corners, and power wheelies with full on throttle QS changing.
I think it depends on the track. Big Euro circuits the 749 would get absolutely murdered on those straights but on U.K. circuits it’s less of an issue. going +4 on the rear sprocket helps a bit. I remember passing a 999 on the way out of Woodcote once and while I could hear him trying to pass me back he couldn’t do it.
Many of us have passed away 1000 cc bikes on a 583 monster and left them behind but doesn’t mean it’s not tedious when you ride with people who are at the same skill level and they f*ck off on the straights. Park straight I would see 150 ish on my 848: on my 583 109!
