Beware Those Speed Trap Camera Vans

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Coman, Dec 15, 2017.

  1. I feel your pain.....A truly wicked crime to exceed the limit by a few mph. If only the same enthusiasm was used to prevent real lawbreakers eh!

  2. I’d be interested to know the ombudsman views on declaring speed awareness courses. I know they already side with the consumer when it comes to the whole 4 year points declaration even though insurers ask 5 years

  3. Speed awareness courses! Think yourselves lucky. They are not offered in Scotland. It's a fine and points and a further course if you've been really bad.

  4. :(

  5. I understand "Admiral" are asking if you have been on a Speed Awareness Course!

  6. Yes Admiral are asking about attending Speed Awareness Courses, didn't make any difference to cost thou when insurancing the Cayman.

  7. Why ask then??

  8. Admiral may or may not be increasing premiums due to speed awareness courses but what they are doing is increasing premiums of drivers involved in no fault claims on the basis that they are more likely to be involved in an accident in the future!
I was insured with Admiral when a woman ran into the back of my car in November 2016. The claim was fully settled against the 3rd party, I got my excess back and I thought that was the end of it. Then, when I got my renewal Admiral had increased the premium by a whopping 150%! How can I possibly have any influence on following drivers who run into the back of me while I'm stationary? I declined to renew and went to Saga for less than I had paid the year before to Admiral.

  9. Insurance premiums are not imposed as a punishment for your faults, they are an evaluation of perceived risk.

Here's a hypothetical example: You buy a vehicle XYZ. During the year it happens just by chance that in your postcode area three XYZs are written off in crashes and three more XYZs are stolen. Therefore your next premium increases sharply, because the insurer calculates that the risk of having to pay out on claims from XYZ owners in your area is much greater than they previously thought. There is no implication that you are in any way at fault, or have done anything whatever.

  10. I'm aware of that Pete. I can understand why there is an increase in perceived risk if there is a bigger percentage of accidents or thefts in a particular area but I fail to see why a single random event by a 3rd party makes me a possible increased risk, and even of I was - 150% increase!

  11. Motor insurance is a government condoned racket which would fail two of the three main anti-trust regulations if a serious attempt to investigate was ever undertaken. Filthy business.

  12. Totally disagree. Someone ran into the side of my car when I lived in Surrey 2 years ago. I moved to Northants (they put my bike insurance up by £300 for that), then when I renewed I told them about the guy hitting my car, and they put my insurance up by another £300 for that no fault accident. Admiral did the same to me 6 years ago after someone hit my mirror and they outright stated to me that I’m a bigger risk as a result of being in a no fault accident because it might make me a more nervous driver (and a load of other drivel).

There should be a transparent scoring system.... you get a score for your area, a score for the vehicle, and a score depending on point or fault accidents... and the premium is an exact calculation from that compared to the value of the car. The problem is it is all “statistics have proven” bs that you have no right to reply on!

  13. Really. I said that your premium can be increased with no implication that you are in any way at fault. What exactly is it about that statement you "totally disagree" with?

  14. Admiral are notorious "Cherry pickers". They aim to minimise claims by excluding or pricing out any potential customer who is anything other than a minimum risk. Try asking them to add a supervised learner to a car policy...

  15. You suggested that the change is because of increased risk in your area or due to that type of bike being stolen and that “There is no implication that you are in any way at fault, or have done anything whatever.”. However, if YOU are in a no fault accident, they will increase YOUR premium because they believe YOU are a higher risk.
