The flapper valve is to keep noise lower in town and city situations. Hence closing at the revs it does. This was what Ducati told me.
Going back a bit now, but I went on an ACU noise meter course once. You had to be precise what distance you were away from the exhaust and at what angle to the bikes exhaust, the meter was held and 2T's failed more often than 4T's even though they were quieter due to the frequency of the noise produced. And if I remember correctly an increase of either 1 or 2 dbA was double the noise ? But I appreciate it don't butter no parsnips if the guy at the circuit tells you to piss off your to loud
Bugger. Big flat spot in each gear around 7k has returned, I thought I'd solved it but obviously not, won't even rev through it. Seems worse when engine is warm but that might be my imagination. New tank of fuel so I don't think it is dirty petrol. Exhaust flap has been well greased and warning light is off so I'm guessing its still working as it should. It has just had the 8,000 mile 3 year service, does that include plugs? Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received Thanks
Yep, I still think it's the flappy valve thing. Try running the bike with the end can off and see if the valve is still flapping correctly when you rev it. p.s. I'm sure mine stuck with out the orange light coming on.
Followed your advice Bradders, bought a small pot of assorted springs and some cable ties for a few quid from Halfords. Cable tied the valve open and threaded a couple of the springs into place. Result! Valve is now locked open and the cable pulls in and then the spring pressure pulls it out again every time the engine is started. Flat spot has disappeared. Hmm, post script - orange light is now permanently on.
Have you ridden it yet? IIRC mine came on then cleared when ridden. It may be worth adding a bot more tension to the spring. Or spend £50 and buy a healtech plug in thing
Have ridden it - although only about 10 miles. Will add another spring to increase the pressure and see if that does the trick
Looking again at the pic, I doing have the cable tie on like that. It is used to add tension to the spring, not hold anything together IIRC, and may be causing your light. Remove the cable tie and see what happens: the valve return spring still needs to be fitted as usual: all you are doing it disabling the cable
Re Light, have you checked your battery terminals are tight ? https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/2-minute-fix.65108/
Not sure if this too old but I have just bought a Multi 1200S dvt (2017). First test ride was like riding a single. Ducati dealer took it in and fitted valve bypass. Now I have a dead spot from about 6k. Going back in again. I have a Diavel carbon on termi system and this goes like a train in all gears at all revs like it should. Very disappointed because everything else about the multi is excellent. Any one else getting flat spots at 6k area. Makes lots of induction noise but no real progress....
Valve is probably stuck, hence the lack of power. A valve bypass will make no difference if it’s stuck but will be fine once it’s been freed off
Definitely Not typical of a DVT experience and more likely a seized post-cat exhaust flapper valve - I actually bought my 15 plate Mutli over a Gen 2 Diavel Dark. Try another
Hi mate, thanks for the comment. The exhaust valve is open by default with the by pass gizmo they fitted and I have double checked it. I have to say the flat spot is not the closed flap strangled type it is more just gutless from 5 to 7 although the curve has reduced its inclination. The dealer has now booked it in for a FOC Dino test which is great news! Thank got I bought it from a proper Ducati dealer!!! Keep you posted!
