Big thanks to JHP - 749 loveliness!

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by JerryXt, Sep 18, 2012.

  1. indeed. TBH, I'm not racing the bike and I was more interested in ensuring that the mixture was correct. As it was, the mixture was too lean and John was concerned that I'd been running it in that state - potential issues with melting pistons...

  2. This has got me thinking. I have a standard 749r which I haven't had long. Is it worth getting that on the dyno jerry? It's something I've never done with my bikes but I'd be interested to see what jhp could do with a stock machine.

  3. There are other places, dyno's everywhere, and worth a run if only to make sure its fuelling correctly.

CJS down in Bristol seems to know as much or more than anyone.

  4. Jerry,

i'm sure he can... i also know a RS engine with 190 RWH lying around for 5K... :)

But the 41 tooth rear sprocket throws an extra punch and and i 've called it a day on the 999 development...
I love it as it is and daon't want to trun it into a money-pit! :)

will strart drooling again when 1199R is announced... :)

    grtz

  5. Ah, but would the numbers be the same?

  6. Andy, again, it's the mixture that's important. If I was chasing numbers, I'd have started with a big RS unit or a four-banger

  7. There must be a consistent measure somewhere, or how would they govern race series limits ;)

  8. Just a quick question, how much if you don't mind me asking is a dyno session for them to have a look at fueling etc ?

  9. sorry Dave, no idea. Give them a call - they're very helpful and friendly.

  10. What happened to you to make you so cynical?

  11. Jerry: NICE ONE!! Hope to see the RS out at BH some time soon!
That will be a great bike to ragg round the track.
Me, still having fun with my underpowered '49R (138rwhp..)

    Ciao.

  12. So what kind of times are you guys doing round brands? You go there a lot so must have an idea...and know where it goes.

  13. ffs Bradders, what's your problem? I've bought a nice bike and I want to treat it properly and I'm constantly getting snide comments. I can handle Andy because he's a buddy and ultimately I know where he's coming from. You, not so much.

Do I constantly make comments about your weight?

  14. Ffs Jerry the problem with you is Andy B not me!! Over-reaction Sunday is it! And whats my weight got to do with it?!

Purely interested; i know a few guys doing 52's on trackdays on 1098s and reckon the delivery of a 749 may be nicer on a small circuit...no pissing game from me

and for the records if you want to be personal I can do brands in 55's with 60 hp and sport touring road tyres...and if you want insults guess you'd be doing 49's then as you know the place so well and so much on tap

    ffs

  15. girls girls......

  16. ok, I apologise, but this topic has come up time and time again. I always do Brands, I'm 'slow' around there, I don't 'need' the machinery I have.

I enjoy your company Paul, but it has been a very long time since we were on track together. Four years maybe? I regularly get down to 57/58s on the little 'berg, . Similar power to your race bike, but I'm not chasing every second - that's just not important to me. I'm not racing, I have nothing to prove. That said, I'm regularly running at the front end of inters and at the sharp end of fast in the wet. In the dry, I get mullah'd.

I got to ride babyR on track just three times. I never rode it around Brands with the timing correct and when this bike is ready, I'm sure the first few days I do, I will be messing around with gearing and suspension setup. I'm putting a 999S/R motor in a 749R (kit) chassis for my regular track toy - I have most of the parts in my cellar, so this bike is only really intended to come out on special occasions, or when I'm absolutely convinced of the group around me.

  17. That'll be Almeria then :upyeah:

  18. Mate, guess youre having a bad day...like I said no pissing contest, just wondered as I know you and Ricky do a lot of track time there and choose an R over a SPS.

Back to thread...there must be a way in which power numbers can be compared (Andy's big thing) as they are used to govern a fair number of motorsports. So if its knocking 120 out on one, I thought with the corrective actions as long as you use the same make of dyno, you should get a fairly similar result anywhere, like 118-122 range. Or whats the point of having limits?

cJS seems to get some big power from bikes, 996 with 150+ and looking at some of the later stuff with mapping the starting numbers seem to stack against the manufacturers numbers then get improved. I hear JHP easily hit the 140 with just a blueprint and slip ons with the 848 challenge bikes so wonder what you could do with some flow work and lighter internals.

Finally get to ride mine on track in the coming weeks, I expect fully to be slower than my 60hp race bike! I would say I look forward to another Brands day but tbh the place scares me and I dont like it that much so likely we'll hre a track abroad

  19. Bradders, I did Donington last week! I must admit it was wierd not being at BH...I certainly got a bit lost at such a big sweeping circuit!
p.s. Dunno why you brought me into this tiff...

  20. Ricky - no tiff I was asking how theR compares to the sps really. Jerry's makes more power but also torq around where an sps is so wondered how that was t ride. Having ridden the track loads, you are both well placed to give a view on which makes sense, ie good mix of fun v power.
