Bike Accident Mr. Air Con

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by AirCon, Aug 19, 2015.

  1. He actually thought wow what an impact to brake that bone (lower leg) like that.

  2. How exactly (in as much as you can remember anything) did your accident happen, AirCon?

  3. After taking observations at the Junction of Green Man Lane (me) to Faggs Road I was intending to head North to the A30.
It's a sunny Saturday afternoon at around 1.20pm. I look right and see a learner car travelling at about 25mph towards me. I'm looking left nothing I checked right again as i pull out the learner car is still several seconds from any possible impact. I take up my correct road position on the left hand lane. Note just north of my Junction there is a traffic island (keep left illuminated plastic cones ×2 ,one for each direction) with pedestrian access through the middle. It's purpose is to keep the traffic separated at the Junction and bend. Further it has white lined chevroned area all the way to the next junction to spread the traffic apart.
As I took up my correct position to the left of this traffic island I found a learner scooter rider heading directly towards me on the wrong side of the island /road. For reasons I cannot justify or reason here I took the middle path and headed towards the island. As the scooter safely passed on my left I turned again to try and take the corrrct original path, but I'd run out of rtime/road and struck the traffic island stopping dead and my motorcycle carried on over the top for around 20~30'. I went down hard and left. At no point was the learner car in any chance of being struck. Strangely that driver didn't stop even though they would have had a good view of the incident. The over ambitious and suicidal scooter rider did stick around and even gave a similar version to the old bill albeit he was taking avoiding action caused by a driver that drove off? Despite not even having a wobble he asked for the ambulance to check him over.
The rest is history as they say.

  4. Hey mate. My pleasure. Embarrassing I didn't realise sooner. Just so you know there's a fellow Ducatisti, and Multi rider on your side always.

Really gutted for you. Not a trivial injury at all. St Mary's was setup as a Major Trauma Centre to deal with complex cases like yours. I am proud and glad you came to us.

It's a long and hard road to full recovery my friend. Your stoicism and resilience so far is inspirational. Make no mistake my friends, AirCon deserves a hero award.

I'm usually in clinic on Tuesday and Friday mornings in parallel to the general trauma. I'll keep an eye out for you.

  6. Glad to hear there is a path in sight, even if the end is a long way off. Take care, it will seem like there is no end at times but it does improve.

  7. Brief update.
Out of bed and in the chair nearest the exit door at 7am. Didn't order any food as I was in "out of here" mode.
Various hospital paperwork and incompetence then before you know it 12 hours have past. Wow that flew past and only felt like a week. Hospital transport returned me to home in the evening.
Slept right through the night and two pain killer appointments! Woke up in a lot of pain, but at least I was home. 90mins later all was well. Bucket wash in my new bedroom ( was the lounge). Quick test drive of the zimmer frame then across the yard to the office. I set myself up with a good 8 hours work. After a 25min argument with Santander security I realise what the strange transactions are...oyster card top ups and coffee at Costa. My wife has expensive habits. Then 2 hours..bang...body failure. Made it back to the makeshift bedroom and sleep.
Note to self don't interact with world unless we are all on Oxycodine. Only start on 2 hour days.
    Tomorrow 2 and 1/2 hours.

  10. It's great to get some work done and get your administration in order. Tiring, but a lot better than lying around feeling useless. Two hours at a time max for now.

  11. No telly. The lounge was a building site. We had to clear 16 sheets of kingspan and plaster board with all the other associated stuff. I've just noticed two 25kg bags of dot n dab in the corner.
Me thinks a trip to costco as soon as we can. I'm not sure what cables are brought down to here from patch panel in loft. Too complicated to explain to missus. May just watch Internet tv as it is easier.

  12. Yep internet tv sounds easier,

  15. Left hand only and that always felt weird when quenching that particular need.

Yesterday I purchased a 46" LG ultra HD tv and the missus has this facing our large window nearest the front door. Given the stupid number of visitors we have and the 10' proximity to the pavement I can see "an American Pie" moment is inevitable. We don't have Net curtains.
Just to check on Web OS function I did test it on xhamster.com which resulted in raised eye brows from Mrs. AIRCON.
Purely for technical reasons why would a video play perfectly for 8-10 seconds then stop? As I already said it's just academic as that's probably enough as it has been 6 weeks.

  18. :Arghh: Air-Con,
I'm so far off the pace here with this piece of news, having not been around and logging on for some time now, but I had absolutely NO IDEA you had had an 'off'......:Nailbiting:
From the sound of things and I have yet to get through this post, you are still in one piece, well almost, but definitely able to be fixed-up, at least I do hope this is the case, as things and the situation will have moved on considerably by now.
 I do hope you are seriously on the mend and that the bike might well be recoverable to some extent, but that's the least of your concerns at this point in time I would think.
Get very well really soon and keep positive, because once you are recovered the rest will no doubt all fall into place.

I hope you are doing OK, let us know if you need anything that we can help out with, you only have to ask o_O
    :upyeah:

  19. HI Tony,
    Thanks for your kind words.
Yep we've got quite a dialogue in the last 39 pages of this thread.
The bike is a goner - Cat B write off.
Luckily I don't have a monetary value, so the NHS is slowly rebuilding me.
I can now slowly shuffle with a zimmer frame for around 50'. This gets me about the ground floor of my home. I use a wheelchair for longer journeys.
Back to 95% functionality within 6 months.

  20. :Bag: Air Con I've just got through reading 'almost' every single page, the most compassionate of which, seems to inevitably come from Duc-Bird, with most of the 'others' giving you well intended, if rather less than helpful, advice, no surprise there I think....
A great load of laughs though, even if for the most part at your expense, however, it seemed pretty clear that in may respects, the 'guidance' gave you a few laughs as well.
I'm glad that you are at least back home to the attention, yet moreso, from the wonderful Emma, who will no doubt be canonised after dealing with you.

Take it easy on both yourself and the family, your keen sense of humour will be seriously tested in the numerous recovery weeks still to come.
Notwithstanding the feedback you were given about recovery expectations with your hand and fingers, don't accept this and give recovery everything you can, you will surprise even yourself.
Keep being positive and let us all know how you are getting on and if at some point you wouldn't mind visitors at home, I might be able to get along and say hello.
Cheers for now buddie, keep getting 'weller'........:D:Banghead:
