Bike magazines/publications?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by El Toro, Aug 13, 2012.

  1. When I grew up my parents owned a news agents, and I've always loved magazines.

Bike - always buy it but their constant love of everything Triumph is really boring.
Performance Bikes - usually buy it
Ride - Like some of it but find it written for those new to biking
MCN - occasionally buy it, but they tend to be the Harbingers of Doom!

  2. +1 and +1

when I first read Practical Sportsbikes (about issue 7 or 8 IIRC - June 2011) it was like someone sat down and said "right.... lets publish a magazine for Phil Harrison, if others buy it too, bonus" I really think they have tapped into a really strong vein of enthusiasts with that publication. I especially like the way its written by adults, unlike some magazines (Performance Bikes springs to mind)

  3. Yes I subscribe to - MCN, RIDE and Classic Bike mag.

Occasionally read Fast Bikes and Practical Sportsbikes.

Worst mag I find is Bike.

  4. Other half has a subscription to Ride - I prefer it to Bike as there are more articles on touring, I like the comparative kit tests, and it seems less prone to the wheelying riding everywhere ludicrously fast school of bike journalism. Can't get terribly excited about endless group tests of sportsbikes or GS clones that I'd never buy.

Occasionally pick up a Bike on holiday, or flick through MCN while waiting for a sausage bap at Loomies.

Otherwise, I just read the members magazines sent to me by the BMF and MAG.

Currently have a large pile of unread magazines on the coffee table that I've not yet had a chance to read.

  5. Classic Porn weekly!!

  6. I read the most interesting bits immediately and then come back to the other bits later - sometimes weeks or months later since once they are out of my briefcase they get stored by my bed or in the lavvy ready for an opportune moment

  7. You are me and I claim my prize

  8. A soapy tenner?

  9. Bike, RiDE, Performance Bike and Practical Sportsbike. I like them all for different reasons, but if I had to loose one, it would be RiDE as I'm not too bothered about Simon Weirs trips to Germany on a BMW tourer. Sorry Simon
