Bike riders still have a bad name!

  1. Slightly off topic... But is no helmet still only a £30 fine, (picked up them a few times) or have they added points to it now?

  2. only ever been asked once in the west country to remove my helmet, was when morrisons took over all the safeways and I popped In for fuel in tavistock, I was doing a job in that store a few weeks later and when I got my job sheet signed by the manager, I asked him, yep company policy because the morrisons up north get robbed and drive offs, but he had had lots of complaints so they dropped it , im another one for pay at pump, so much easier, but I do try to support my local small garages when getting fuel

  3. When we fill our trucks up (over £1200) for all coffin tanks etc, we have to leave the fuel card with the Service Station attendant before they switch on the pump.

Perphaps, IF you want to leave your helmet on - leave pre-payment with the attendant.

When filling our trucks the attendants check the card is valid before switching on pump.....and yes I have personaly witnessed problems with EU drivers and cards at HGV fueling stations.

  4. It's a trust thing, isn't it. The attendants who ask you to remove your lid clearly don't trust you, and you feel angered at being seen as untrustworthy. It certainly riles me.

Funnily enough I used to have a visor sticker that read, 'Put your hands up. Empty the till', and no-one ever asked me to remove my helmet then...

  5. there's a bit of a difference between putting £1,200 of fuel into a truck and £6 into a motorcycle. You can't seriously expect people to operate the same rules for both transactions?

  6. I fill up at moto services exeter before my sunday ride i do take my gloves off but never my helmet and have never been asked to , maybe we dont get many run offs here in the south west

  7. helmets, and petrol stations have been a long going thread on other forums, its been said that facial recognition is required, often to ascertain that your over the legal age to purchase fuel.....on another note I was made to take my helmet off in a local Sainsburys, when I had checked the window before entry to see if it said "no Helmets" (staff not included) I was only getting a bottle of coke, but the security guard waited until I had walked round the shop, and was just about to get served, I argued my point, and pointed out the flip was up, and asked for the manager to explain his policy on wearing helmets to which he was unsure, I was soaking wet and removed the helmet, and it went up in the air like a wet bar of soap, cracking on the floor, I was now furious, this was taken up with senior management, over the next few days and they replaced my Shoei multi-tech in full

  8. a petrol station in newry co down asked me to pre pay for my fuel once so I argued that I didn't know how much the bike would take so how could I pre pay etc the queue was building behind so they backed down.
another petrol station had a message posted at pay point that no northern bank £20 notes will be accepted ( due to them having received a few forgeries ) so back I went with a wallet of northern bank 20s and filled the van, when they refused my money and I explained that's all I had there was a stand off......it was only when I asked for written conformation that they were refusing to accept my legal tender payment that they backed down. ffs the message was at the till and only visible when you go to pay.
im still awaiting someone telling me to remove helmet.

  9. Sitting on a forecourt on a £12k brand new bike in over £1k of kit being asked to 'show your face' for the princely sum of £15 when they simply call 101 and report a bilking of £90 yet make absolutely NO effort to stop the driver meandering off the forecourt really is stereotyping motorcyclists.

I was stood at the pump not long ago when a scrote pulls up in a fiesta with no front plate and fills up to the brim. Drives off. No effort to announce he wasn't able to purchase his fuel. I guess because of the amazing high quality CCTV from 30ft above behind a lens covered in crap and flies the footage will be THAT good that the suspect will be identified and prosecuted for theft. The very same petrol service station who have a 'lid off' policy.

Makes you wonder where from a litigation perspective they would be if you slipped on petrol while in charge of the bike and its controls while parked and cracked your head open. Public place where vehicles have access and all that.

I know that's a bit of an unlikely angle but seriously....

  10. Just take forever putting your lid back on and let the traffic build up
Perhaps the forecourts will see sense when drivers have to wait for a pump

  11. From 2007 till now I've never been asked to remove my lid to fill up in a petrol station ... watch it go happen now this weekend

    Stu

  12. Reading some of the posts, some of you are really angry with life.

I just take my helmet off when I pay, it's just good Karma :upyeah:

  13. I've never taken my helmet off when filling up, unless I was meeting someone at the services and I had to wait for them to arrive. I've never been asked to take my lid off.

  14. Tell me more, hooker on a Honda Cub?

  15. A female attendant once said to me, " Please sir, would you remove your helmet? "

I replied, " But I thought you wanted sex."

    Game over.

  16. It's all arse about face

The petrol garages are the robbing bastards, not us innocent bikers...

  17. Too bloody right:mad:

  18. I think you're wrong. It's the oil companies that are the robbing bastards.

  19. I have edited that for you. Garages make very little money on petrol, one drive off and the days profits can be gone.

I never take my helmet off but I can understand how scary it can look if you are behind a counter hoping not to get robbed.

You might have 15k worth of exotica but to the attendant it is no different to the ratty crosser that road off without paying last week.

  20. So by removing a helmet stops someone riding off without paying after filling up? What do car drivers that fill up and drive off do, they aren't bothered about being seen?

If they make so little, how can profit on £10-15 worth of fuel wipe out a days profit?
