Bike Stolen.... Already Recovered

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by pisquano, May 31, 2016.

  1. Just check the wording. I'm sure they only state you need to inform them of any accident or claim.

  2. Insurance companies charge you for perceived risk so the more they know, the more they'll have to use against you so don't volunteer any more than you have to honour the contract. If you do tell them, because you think it's the right thing to do, they may alter your records and charge you an admin fee even if it doesn't affect your premium. They are soulless mercenaries and with them no good deed will go unpunished. This is, of course, my own jaded view and comes with nothing substantial to back it up.

Oh, I'm really glad you got your bike back.

  3. Well said that man.

  4. I'm feeling a little crock today. I was due to attend a large insurance call centre in Kent, however reading this has reminded me what a bunch of ¥@☆♧♤⊙■ they are, so I've made my apologies for today. Back to bed....they can sweat it our for one more day.

  5. Never tell them anything you don't have to...

  6. looking to make this thugs' life more difficult. I have an alarmed lock (artago) - any advice here on other devices/alarms?
I would consider the (acoustic) alarm, but I am told it draws a lot of current, and with Bike Trac already on, I wouldn't want to create even more strain to the battery

  7. Is it on the street or in a little frontage bit outside your house?

  8. On the street

  9. You drilled a ground anchor into the street, or is it in one of those public MC bays? If you just plain drilled on into the street, fair play :clapping:

If they were happy to cut through your chain, an alarm isn't going to stop them.

  10. Can't you get some garden space off a neighbour or something?

Leaving such a bike on a London street is going to inevitibly attract more thieves going forward.

  11. Mine was behind a wall. They just knocked the wall down to get to the bike behind it. Alongside the tracker, physical security is all you can do. Maybe multiple chains and multiple ground anchors, along with a camera or two. My cameras alert me to movement and send me a 5 second clip. If it seemed dodgy I could call the police and hope they get there before they get through the physical security.

  12. it's actually one of those public bays, but with ground anchors. they seemed to have been able to "de-anchor" the C shaped part, so they removed the chain no problem. so even those anchors are of limited utility....

  13. I wish but no... garages in London are a rare breed

  14. Eh?

  15. Try local underground parking. My pals who live in south London rent some underground spaces from people who live in the apartments but don't own a car.

Not easy to find I know.

  16. I know the ones. They're rare in London so at least you have those.

I bet the council paid about £300 each plus fitting for those things. That's the public sector for you.

How far from your house is the bay?
