  1. Good to hear folk out & about on your bike, my wife and myself have toured Europe for nearly 20years from Scottish Borders get ferry from Newcastle to Ijmugen then aim to avoid as much of France as possible head down Croatia & when heading back aim for Austria, Bavaria.
PS Love France could see me living in the Dordogne region but even before Brexit French police are s—t no sense of humour looking for anything to chastise or fine. One tour Colmar they approached us whilst we walked back to our bike to check our road side Hi Vis vest in case of break down! I only had 1 in top box so that gave them opportunity to have a dig.
Anyhow Solo, it works for me just completed nearly 2k circumnavigating coast of Ireland from Dublin right round and back up to Larne Europe next year but think solo, get the feeling wife’s had enough, she will fly Switzerland then train & I meet up, last time I did that was on 851 Luxembourg onto Colmar we like Colmar.

  2. Bloody unlucky there tbh. and would not let that one experience put you off. Nobody I know carries hiviz, except in cars.
Lived there six years, no issues.
Prior to that had many tours and just passing through. Pulled once in the Alps for exceeding the speed on town limits, 4 of us, not by much. Spotted the UK plates and just a friendly warning, waved us off.
Expect much worse in Austria where they sometimes do bike specific road checks, your bike really needs to be standard. Guy on last years Cannonball had a HUGE fine due to all the non standard parts..

  3. Yes, flew to bologna and caught train to prato, dead easy.

For Spain, depot was in Barcelona and flew there, taxi to industrial estate to pick up bikes.

Return was vice versa on both

  8. Rained all night here at home, glad i missed that lot.
Met a fellow V4 on the train (wierdo rode with another person on another bike!) I found out that I am not crazy and the V4 resets all your trips whyen you switch from MPH to KPH !
Anyway from the Garmin it looks like I chalked up 2083 Kilometersor 1294 miles

  9. Yeah that annoys the crap out of me. Why does it do that?!

  10. Incompetence ! Apparently it has been passed on to the tech bods. Annoyed, as I always carefully record mileage but "hey no need I have the tech"

  11. OK can't upload routes here and so if you need files PM me, I stayed at the Hotel Melba Bastogne. Clean and good space with off road parking (limited now due to extention)

  13. Great post! I actually read each response for a change. Off to The Pyrenees next month on my Multi 1260 with 3 friends (3rd time). Thinking of doing some of ROI on my own next next year as my daughter lives in Dublin so good for start/finish. Look forward to further posts about your travels.

  18. can we talk about security? as my paranoia of getting my bike nicked is holding me back, im trying to do a solo up north

do you have to have covered secure parking?

are there motorbike hotels that cater for this and where can one find them?

i dont think my bike would be healthy if it spent a night outside in the rain

is it ok to park it outside of hotels with just a couple of locks on?

    any stories or experiences?
