V4 Blown Fork Seal

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Wilbert, Aug 24, 2021.

  1. Hmmmm

I've been using the same dealer for 21 years, pushed loads of work their way too and never been offered one, even when asked...

  2. always get my pick of the available demo bikes when mine's being serviced. seastar in norfolk just to give them a :upyeah:as i noticed someone had been bemoaning them recently

  3. Fork seal shot and there is a defect in the fork leg. Both getting replaced under warranty but the downside is there are no fork legs in stock so I won't be riding my bike on the trip next week. Frantically trying to arrange the use of another bike as the dealer's don't give out loan bikes which is a bit shit in this day and age. Spend £22k on a bike to go on trips and then bike fails and can't go on planned trip because of a manufacturing fault. Doesn't seem fair and I question what is the point of buying new and getting a 4 year warranty if you can't do what the bike was intended to do? Hopefully Ducati UK will sort something out. Maybe BMW weren't the robbing B&at&rd$ I thought they were after all.......

  4. For the record my dealer is Ducati Worcester, part of the DMC group that supplied my bike originally. It was the Preston branch as Worcester was only set up to serve my needs after I'd bought the bike and didn't have a dealer nearby :D

  5. Interesting, my bike is currently at Ducati Preston. They were not the supplying dealer but are the one closest to my home which is where Ducati Assist (The AA) take the bike. The supplying dealer was maybe 15 miles further away but they wouldn't take it there. Was told by Preston they can't give me a loan bike. Spoke with Ducati UK who will see if they can sort something. Also spoken to finance company as it was bought on a PCP. They say I have a case for complaint but it would take 2 weeks to get any response which is too late when I'm supposed to be going touring in 6 days time.

  6. Thanks for taking the time to point me in the direction of rental bikes. I can't justify almost £1500 on top of fuel, accommodation, ferries, food and beer for a 12 day trip. Looks like either a miracle needs to happen or I'm waiting until next year to do the annual lads trip to Scotland.

  7. As you've got the bike on PCP I would continue those conversations, they will refund you for the weeks/months without the bike and also offer another payment for the inconvenience. Obviously this may take several weeks to sort out and doesn't help with your trip but at least you can be financially recompensed.

  8. It looks like my prayers have been answered. Finally got to speak to the right person and they pulled the correct strings. Bike now going to supplying dealer and they are fitting a whole new fork so I can do the trip I've been waiting all year to do.

  9. Great result!
I had a similar situation a few years ago when the wire to the shock was damaged (when I got it back after a service). They had to fit a whole new shock (£1,800) and initially tried to blame it on me, then there was a delay in getting the part but luckily it was all done with 2 days to spare so I feel your pain.

  10. Good news, that sort of thing is what makes a customer a keeper from one who jumps ship. All manufacturers will have their faults, some might never suffer one but some definitely will and it’s how the issue is dealt with that makes all the difference?

  11. I took my 1260 in to get the forks checked. While I was waiting I dashed across the street to an ice cream shop for a snack. When I got back to the shop the mechanic said it looked like I blew a seal. I told him "no that's just ice cream"

  13. Bike has been fixed and will be delivered to me on Tuesday after they have given it a clean so I'll be able to set off on the 12 day trip the following day. Complete new fork, new brake pads and new tyre all fitted due to part failure / oil contamination. Big thanks to Ducati Leeds for pulling out all the stops to get me back on the road and to be able to complete the tour I've been looking forward to all year.

  16. Great to hear! I use D.Leeds for my servicing so great to know they are decent people :upyeah:

.... Having said that, they did give me a Triumph Thruxton the last time my bike was in for servicing :worried: .... a different Ducati would have been more welcoming!

  18. Bike was delivered as promised this morning and all is good again. Went on an 80 mile ride to scrub in the new tyres and bed the new brake pads in ready for the 12 day trip. Panniers and top box loaded, tyre pressures checked, chain oiled, fueled up and weather looking good too.
