Does anybody know why the bike is manufactured with this weird contradiction? It must be for a reason, just curious.
Lots of options for getting rid of the old mirror stumps to tidy up the bar area. Might take a bit of googling for the correct colour/fitment but will look much nicer.
Which way round are they? Do they both get tighter from wind pressure, or do they unscrew themselves if you clip a van when filtering (Instead of knocking off the brake/clutch lever mounts)?
Left one was a normal thread right was an abnormal thread. I can only think it’s to save damage as you say ie clip something and the mirror pushes back the way the bolt would loosen rather than pushing back against a tightening bolt. Unless of course your an eejit like me that didn’t read the manual and spent the last 5 days applying penetrating fluid and tightening the bolt
If you are looking to improve your M1100S you could always junk the wooden brake calipers and get some P4 calipers (749/999, Aprilia RSV, BM S1K etc). Straight swap, no need for new hoses.
Hmmm, I hadn't mentioned that, how did you know. I did try, several times, with the same breaker bar that very nearly knackered my mirror bolt, no joy, it's been done up by someone with a rattle gun in the past and probably far exceeds the stated torque value. I even bought a 600Nm rattle gun which arrived last week but haven't had chance to use it yet as it didn't come with the correct adapter to fit my air-line. I'm just waiting on a delivery now. Alternatively, I could just ride it to the dealers (when they reopen which hopefully will be May 18th) and let them deal with it
