A couple of weeks ago my HSBC debit card suddenly stopped working. Went to branch. Turned out somebody had tried to make a fraudulent transaction on my account. HSBC had spotted it and stopped the transaction, which is good. That had also immediately blocked my card, which is bad. They sent me a new card, arrived a couple of days later, which is good. Just as well I wasn't away on holiday at the time! The moral being: always carry one or two spare valid cards from entirely different banks (e.g. American Express), just in case your usual one goes up the swannee without warning.
Sorry we didn't make this one.........completely missed the strand on the forum and didn't think about it until tonight! Probably the only decent day in two months too. D'oh
