Brake disc question?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Nelson, Jul 24, 2013.

  1. Whats the difference in offset between 916 discs and 1198 discs? I have some radial ohlins adapters for my 916's forks and have bought some spacers as they currently sit 30mm from centre of caliper bolt to centre of disc. I note my calipers will need to be 108mm with a 22.5mm offset as the catalogue (brembo) dont show a 108 with a 30mm offset, only a 22.5. Thus I got some 7.5mm spacers for my discs. But I have a spare set of as new brembo 1198 discs and wondered if i could swap em over.

  2. 5mm. 916 have 10mm discs, 1198 have 15mm.

The offset of the caliper is a different thing altogether but AFAIK should be the same for all types.

  3. The ones I have on my 748S with 1098 Showa forks apparently came off a 748R (with 10mm offset) are the straight-spoke design.
I think that was the only design they did in 6-hole disks with 10mm offset ... but it's Ducati we're talking about and that means there's bound to be an exception to the rule somewhere!!

  4. Ant, do you mean 15mm off-set?

  5. Aha, so if I fit the 1198 discs I will only need 2.5mm spacers rather than 7.5mm ones which i have. Methinks that will look neater. Good job no-one bought my 1198 discs when they were on fleabay for 195/pair.

The radial adapters are for the 108mm japanese sizing. Pity as plenty of 100mm ones about(ie Nelsons). (or is it the other way around i always forget and have to go recheck the radial adapters)

  6. I would say if you use the 1198 discs you shouldn't need any spacers? But maybe some combinations of fork/mount/wheel will differ?

I previously had 108mm calipers on 916 forks and needed the 15mm offset discs, I've now swapped to 1198S Ohlins forks (with 100mm calipers) and am still using the same wheel/disc combination as before...

  7. Get yer own bloody thread..

I think my issue can be resolved if anyone knows if both the showa and ohlin 748R bikes had 15mm off-set.
Looking on the net they defo look different..:frown:

  8. Yes, sorry my bad typing and monday morning without coffee.

  9. Noproblemo

  10. Whilst looking for discs, I was informed that some MY 748R have the 10mm and some the 15mm offset. I'm not sure if that corresponds to purely the year or rather the fact that the 15mm were for Ohlins forks and 10mm for Showa? - I would suspect that the bike had Ohlins in the years that used the 15mm offset.

You certainly need to be aware if buying 748R discs especially because many sellers aren't aware.

    In short unless they look like these;

Then they are probably 10mm offset...

  11. Cheers DD, I'm starting to believe you're correct.
Most info on the net/forums seems to suggest that 748R bikes have the 15mm off-set. I think this only applies to the ohlin forked bikes.

    Cheers

  12. The first year of 748R, 2000, had Showa front forks and an Ohlins shock, so it may well have been that there were two different offsets...

  13. Mr Nelson, this thread is a generic brake disc thread. It is not titled Nelson's Brake Disc thread so ner.

Besides it may throw out some information useful to you.:tongue::biggrin:

  14. Back to yer 48 teeth you!

  15. I'd agree with the above, reading through this thread that was my estimation. I don't know of any of the 748-9** series bikes using Showas that had a 15mm offset.

  16. Only the ohlins model 748R had the 15mm offset, not the showas.

They (ohlins) had the spokey design, showas had the snowflake.

Get the seller to measure from the mounting face of the carrier to the disc.

All the 749/999 also used 15mm.
