1200 Brembo Brake Upgrade With Ohlins

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Twin4me, Jan 4, 2015.

  1. Offset by one less banjo and makes changes easier

  2. I'm not understanding this. The original setup has a flexy from the master cylinder permanently crimped to a hard pipe to the ABS unit. From the ABS unit there is another hard pipe becoming a flexy hose from the steering head to the LH caliper with a flexy link pipe joining the calipers. The above description seems to bypass the ABS! Is this what you are doing?

  5. Confirmed.....
the parts list is CORRECT for a bike with ABS.

You are replacing the line from the under seat ABS pump to the "near side" calliper and then nearside calliper to the "off side" calliper. This is why you've got a 1.85cm long line.
    The reason for this;
The original equipment on the Multistrada has fixed banjos at the ends of the lines and due to the angle of the boss that the banjo bolt enters the M4 or M50 calliper it will foul the wheel.
The replacement lines have angled banjos that allow the hydraulic lines to clear the wheels.

You do not need to replace the ABS pump (under the riders seat) to Master cylinder (right hand handle bar) hydraulic line. If fact doing so will cause an issue, as there is not enough room on the right hand side of the bike. The factory hydraulic line switches to steel for this section.

  6. Thanks, I knew someone clever than me would work this out, and John has already done all the hard work!
I'm just replacing the same 2 lines on mine as well now.

  9. eh...

  10. LMAO, i really dont know why something so simple, with full parts numbers, instructions, and pictures all posted on a previous thead has become such a topic for debate...

Bradders, the question should be why use two lines.
It provides a stiffer lever feel, but needs more fluid to me moved for the same force.
With the abs pump in the way, any gain of lever firmness is negated.so it makes less sense than when going direct from the master cylinder. Maybe some people can notice the difference, but personally I can't (tried both on my 998).

    Cheers
    John.

  11. How do the front forks cope with the extra braking power? I'm guessing they might need a little adjustment somewhere.

  14. lol.
If you brake harder, you get more fork compression, simple as that.
Sure you can probably fiddle with the settings, but that likely firms up the forks all the time.

By way of comparison, go ride a 1x98 and 848, and compare their brakes. The standard 848 has the same brakes as the mts (or at least i beleive they do)

  15. I test rode an 848 Corse SE a couple of years back. Had the most amazing brakes i had ever tried. Super powerful but equally loads of feel. I know they were Brembo Monobloc of some description, perhaps M4s but i think they also had 330mm discs as opposed to the 320's of all other 848s.

Can 330mm discs be fitted to a Multi?

  16. The 848 se has indeed 330mm discs.
They can be fitted to a multi with 5mm spacers

  17. Jeez I hope all this aggro is worth the effort! :Banghead:

  18. I'd have made it fit with just a banjo change at most. Just saying like ;)
