During a half hour report on sky news last night the captain of one of the Irish ferries was interviewed and he said although it was an alternative to go straight to the continent , it was not practical, it would be a two day trip when the weather was good but because of the rough seas in poor weather the ferries could be parked up in port for days on end unable to sail.

That’s a valid point but..... it may be “2 days” from Dublin but it’s “only” 16.5 hrs from Cork to Roscoff. The world doesn’t revolve around Dublin much as the Dubs like to think it does. It’s feasible if needs be and wouldn’t be hampered by bad weather much more than the regular Ireland/UK crossings are. But I agree there’s no perfect solution.
keeping the profits and associated tax take from transportation away from the coffers in Whitehall and collected by the irish govs pocket to spend in their country is a bonus and a better solution.
