British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Loss of 160 with lots of abstentions. A loss of more than 250 must mean the witch is gone.

  2. The 2017 United Kingdom general election took place on Thursday 8 June 2017, having been called just under two months earlier by Prime Minister Theresa May on 18 April 2017 after it was discussed in cabinet.

So folks, what happens in the interregnum between “effective” Governments if the sequence is:
    1. Lose Meaningful Vote
    2. Come to Parliament with Plan B, which still looks the same as Plan A.
    3. A few days when no-one will accept the poison chalice to form a new Goverment.
    4. Request a General Election: would be around 29th March 2019, or a couple of weeks either side.

The Election manifestos for all parties would make interesting reading!

  4. Has probably always been the case, but is it more obvious to more people now ?

Going to be harder than ever to find someone to vote for

  5. Whatever happens Tuesday, this is certainly not going to be true:

"Within 2 years, before negotiation with the EU is likely to be complete, & therefore before anything material has changed, we can negotiate a free trade area massively larger than the EU. The new trade agreements will come into force at point of exit.’

    - David Davis, July 2016

  6. Probably because they haven’t been trying, they’ve been too busy finding a way to not leave at all.

  7. ‘There will be a free trade agreement that allows all our businesses to trade freely to and from continental Europe... It will take a relatively short period of time.’

    - Chris Grayling in February 2016

These are going to be lengthy negotiations, they're going to challenging negotiations… Nobody has ever said the negotiation would be straightforward and simple.’

    - Chris Grayling, October 2017

  8. If you look in the dictionary for the word “Cockwomble” the definition is “Chris Grayling”

  10. I may be missing your point here, are you saying they have been trying ?

Just a guess, but what he means by they are going to be lengthy is that it involves travel and staying in a nice hotel negotiating over a posh three course dinner somewhere.

Don’t get me wrong I’m no fan of Grayling, or any of them at the moment.

  11. He, to me, is one of the prime examples of why we should sack the bloody lot of them.
Basically he campaigned for leave, then when he got what he ‘wanted’ f*ked off and hid.

  12. To me Boris talked up a big game, got way out of his depth and sank out of sight. Script writers put clever words in his mouth, but Boris couldn't keep up.

  13. Call it what you like the peoples vote or a second referendum or what ever

The people campaigning for a second bite at the cherry think they can get a remain result

However what happens if it results in a leave vote?

Do we have a third referendum?

    Do parliament ignore the result?

Or will the remain camp quietly admit defeat?

  15. Hopefully we won't have any of those to think about, we have had our say already, it's now time for the mp,s to act on our decision.

  16. Given that both leaders of the two main parties are against another referendum, its not that likely to happen.

Still if May loses by a massive margin say 200 votes plus, she should be pressured into resigning or perhaps she will just be so embarassed she will quit of her own accord. Though a new PM might have a different mindset.

Also if Corbyn can't get the votes to win a vote of No Confidence in the government, he also might lose his job unless he agrees to support another referendum.

I expect much will be revealed this week.

  18. Listen to those pushing for a loser's vote, the option to leave isn't even being talked about.

They are saying the choice shoud be -
    • Take May's deal (Stay in the EU)
    • Stay in the EU
That tells you everything you need to know about those calling for the loser's vote and their agenda. Real believers in democracy, they are. They even manage to keep a straight face while saying it too. Adonis, Soubry, Clegg, Blair, Campbell A, Clakr K.............

  19. I meant Failing Grayling was either lying or incompetant when he said it would be easy, and making himself look ridiculous when he totally contradicted himself a year later.
