British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. She’s buying votes.

    But... she can’t rule out a no-deal Brexit because a no-deal Brexit hurts the EU as much as the UK, they don’t want it either. Take it off the table and it’s like a poker game where you admit at the outset you’re never going to go all in. The other side know they can outbid you. I guess JC’s never played poker.

  2. So how about May putting the Withdrawal Deal up for another vote, amended;
    Backstop maximum duration 2 years. £39 Billion starts to be released upon signing a mutually agreeable trade deal including Financial Services.
    This then gets voted through.
    May then delivers it to the EU for them to debate and vote upon.
    Result = Pressure on them to accelerate an agreement before 29th March Brixit on WTO terms.

  3. May can't rule out "No Deal" in part because she is shite at negotiating, shite at choosing negotiating Ministers and might end up with No Deal due to incompetence.

  4. IF, there was a 2nd Referendum - It can only be on the basis of "What Brexit do you support?":
    • Best negotiated deal possible with EU (essentially the present deal with any late concession by EU)
    • WTO Brexit
    • EFTA
    If Remain was on the referendum I really feel there will be civil unrest.

  5. Or..... she ‘May’ be a very good poker player. The jury’s out.

  6. IMO There can’t be a 2nd ref as ;
    a) it makes a mockery of the first (but hey ho, that’s happened here in Ireland, and in Denmark, and one other country that escapes me at present), and ;
    b) if there’s a 2nd ref Parliament is effectively saying ‘feck it, it’s too difficult, we can’t decide, we can’t do our jobs, you, the people decide. Oh,.. you decided once already (see a above) and;
    c) if it flips the other way, should there a 3rd or more referendum?

    The shit is upon us and the present Govt and Parliament have to sort it out and pronto.

  8. At the risk of inciting vicious argument I will recount a tale.

    When I was somewhat younger (and less open minded and less versed in other’s views) my uni housemates and I used to sit there watching the BBC news and ‘the troubles’ and we came up with, what we thought was, the perfect solution. No-one on mainland UK cares about NI. It’s just a PIA and costs a fortune to police. Why not give NI back to I coz it was theirs originally and any Unionists who didn’t like it couldfeck off back to Scotland from whence they came.

    It seemed the perfect solution to our young and inexperienced (and alcohol addled minds).

    I like your thinking @AirCon

    Unfortunately it won’t work because there are many in NI who, despite being born on the island of Ireland and despite being eligible to be Irish citizens and hold an Irish passport, continue to insist they’re British. :confused:

    It’s a bit like descendants of the Raj insisting they’re still British whilst residing in Jaipur. Simply speaking.

    It’s a very complicated situation, says one who carries a UK passport, was born in London to an Irish emigre but who now lives in SWIreland.

  10. No one has learned anything,because the past 47 years of real,measurable experience,historical data,and a healthy disdain for anything uttered by anyone who claims to be a politician ensured that those who KNOW voted leave,and those who THINK they know voted remain.
    Were YOU taken in by those slogans on the side of the bus?
    If not,what gives YOU the right to claim that anyone else was taken in by it?
    As it happens I do believe there should be another referendum.
    And it should be held in 47 years,after exactly the same length of time has passed that the country has been a member,(and Heath admitted he lied to force the country in to the EC/EU).
    If you are not just bitching because you lost,(and as you don't have any evidence that leaving the EU will be bad for the UK,all you have is what you have been told by remainers and your vivid imagination ),then you would agree to that.

  11. We cant take Scotland, Fin still lives there!! :) You know its bad when the only thing I know about European politics is what you lot discuss on here.
    I have to head back in a couple of weeks to handle some family stuff so I'm sure I'll be told about it. Might have to swing by Cork to have a pint with Paul to get the local scope.

  12. It will still cost me money to renew my UK passport though, right?

    I mean, they aren't waiving that, are they?

    WTO Brexit hurts EU more than it does the UK, if you look at the trade figures. However, we won't know the real answer until we have successfully escaped the clutches of the Soviet EUnion.

  13. W.W.W.
    standard fair AC. there is a reason why we say Westminster rather than england, there is a reason why everybody i know would distance themselves from the kind patter you see on here daily, there is a reason why your country is divided they way it is. there is a reason why your country is being seen overseas they way it is.
    so much to learn.

  14. When I think of Cameron only letting the unwashed vote in a referendum because he was 100% sure we would vote remain it makes my blood boil!
    Who the f### do these politicians think they are. I remember reading an article saying France would never have a referendum as the “elite” were scared of the wrong result.
    I can’t wait to see these so called leaders get their comeuppance. The people are wise to them now!
