I am not sure how this can be a surprise to anyone. The EU said we would not get a better deal than what we have as EU members. It’s fair to assume that since we will have the ability to strike our own deals with other third countries, that these deals will be better than what we have through the EUs deals with those countries, otherwise what’s the point of leaving if we end up with worse deals? And then the problems start. People in Eire, will want to travel to NI to buy stuff because it will be cheaper than in Eire, so that will mean border checks going south. Or maybe, our negotiating team is still poor and we get worse deals than we have just now and people from NI got to Eire to buy stuff and that’s when you need border posts moving into the north
This has been stated several times over the past 3 years on here but people just don't want to hear it, or indeed refute it with evidence to the contrary
1) "Pending a full free trade agreement has been agreed" We haven't even started on the free trade agreement as the withdrawal agreement has to be agreed first. 2) This has to be offered to the EU..... so it's anyone's guess what they will say.... I'm not a betting man, but my money is on No Anyone who thinks the U.K. is in the driving seat is a fantasist, and that's clear from where we are now.

I agree with what you say but it was the case previously that NI/Eire had different pricing for beer (ask how I know) so you could buy cheap Bud (I know) in the south but then found out it was lower strength. These anomalies exist even with the EU and also in USA so in or out won't make a difference - fuel has also cause border issues not too long ago
1) Doesn't that then mean the UK can trade freely with the EU until a trade deal has been agreed. 2) They would rather we remained so will probably say no, even if it harms the other countries within the EU The UK is not in the driving seat because the government have been too busy arguing over whether they want to drive or not and now who's going to drive.
They exist in the U.K. too, Scotland introduced the minimum price per unit cost on alcohol making their booze more expensive than the rest of the U.K.'s. anyone near the border noticed huge levels of alcohol smuggling? I'd be surprised.
I was in Scotland last week when it was announced that there had been a drop in alcohol consumption in Scotland and it was now at its lowest for 25 years. The BBC then went on to find any number of ways to conjure up negative views of what is undoubtedly a positive result. Also, not a word on BBC Scotland about the poll of Tory party Members which said 61%would ditch Scotland before Brexit. Good people of England and Wales, Finm and I warned you all of this in 2013 and you dismissed us.
