British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. It’s as if you believe that a Melton Mowbray pork pie is just the same as any other pork pie. As usual you are starting from the wrong place. Europeans pay more for Scottish seafood than Dutch or French, but if it arrives late they will pay £0 for it

  2. The trouble with fins figures is that shellfish do not account for half a billion. The catch for the entire west coast of scotland does of which £133 million is shellfish. The west coast fishing body has concerns if the eu slaps down strict inspections there will be a delay but it is a fear and nothing yet has suggested that will happen other than project fear

Fin, you forgot to mention the east coast versus the west coast fishing

The west coast of Scotland fisheries are worried that officials are paying more attention to the leaver voices in the fishing industry — notably east coast scottish trawlermen and English trawlermen who prioritize regaining access to waters — and have forgotten about smaller, more lucrative parts of the industry.

So this isn't about saving the U.K.'s fleet, this is the west coast of scotland telling the rest of scotland and the rest of the u.k., in a typical remainer stylee, fuck you jack I'm okay.

  3. So who will backfill that need and get it to europe without freezing it?

  4. Is that a serious question?

If fresh North Atlantic shellfish and crustaceans cannot get to the bolougne sur mer market on time then it can’t get there on time.

  5. Is now a good time to point out that the EU and the French in particular are protectionist?

  6. But but but all the remain camps told us it wasn't a protectionist organisation, surely they were not wrong? :D
France will surprise no one, of all the countries who have said fuck off the eu rules, France has said it the most.

    I read in 2017 a report by a dutch university and it worked through a clean break brexit and the fisheries. It said both sides would have an impact. How it explained that comment was as follows;

If the U.K. retains all of it's waters for U.K. fishing fleets, the dutch, french, belgium and republic of irelands fishing communities will go the way of the u.k. fishing industries when the common fisheries policy was enforced on the U.K. and collapse

The risk they said would be that the eu might then tariff the fish so high that it would not be worth catching although, they did emphasise on this, it is incredibly unlikely as the market for U.K. fish, and in that volume and so close as to be fresh on the door, would see the markets remove the choice from the eu as many eu industries rely on the fish arriving in the eu too.

For some, the idea the U.K. has any aces at all is dare I say, foreign to them. We have far more aces than some care to admit too

Why do you think the channel tunnel was built?

    A clue

    https://www.gov.scot/binaries/content/documents/govscot/publications/foi-eir-release/2018/08/foi-18-02051/documents/foi-18-02051---annexes-i-to-l/foi-18-02051---annexes-i-to-l/govscot:document/FOI-18-02051+-+Annexes+I+to+L.pdf

Now forgive me but this is where the snp get their knickers in a twist and show their double standard.

Stating delays and border delays will effect the Scottish economy ability to have frictionless trade, whilst at the same time wishing to leave the U.K. which they know will see a hard border, different trading standards, documentation and delay, is typically two faced from the snp.

  8. the value in total of fish landings, excluding farmed shell fish and salmon. in Scotland is near a bill. with only 9% of the population it accounts for 65% of all uk landings. thats a pretty disproportionate hit.
by the time you factor in the onshore jobs, shellfish is worth near half a bill. its perishable and needs to be in the market within hours.
Michael Matheson has written to his UK counterpart Chris Grayling asking for goods such as Scottish seafood to be given space on ferries.

He warned that livelihoods were being put at risk by this "lack of support for exporting businesses".

The UK government said it was preparing for "all possible" Brexit outcomes.

Mr Matheson claimed that the Department for Transport had failed to take action despite the issue being raised in previous correspondence from the Scottish government.

He said: said: "With an annual value of £944m, seafood accounts for 58% of Scotland's total food exports.

"Seafood is highly perishable and therefore dependent on the sort of swift and reliable transport connections which would be damaged by a disorderly UK exit from the EU."
i think the "i'm alright jack" should be reserved for the five families that own near a half of all quotas but sell the quotas to foreign boat owners, then, go on to bitch that they need financial support because there are to many foreign boats in our waters.
    uh huh.

  9. 9% of population: just how many people fish in Scotland and is that the crucial trade around which we have to build our foreign policies?

  10. no. but it is the only game in town when torys and the media talk of the EU and scotland. it plays to the too wee too poor message. they cant be telling you our economy has a value of a trill. 2014 figures.
it accounts for about just 1% of the economy, tho shell fish plays a big part of the rural west coast economy. yea, great news, scotland gets 1% of its economy back. but they are pretty sure 99% of it is fucked.

  11. You are dreaming again.

    Come back to reality.

The reality is the law says we are leaving under WTO, so it will be those tariffs. As I have pointed out but you still fail to understand, the tariffs are irrelevant if you can’t get it to market on time.

Having sole access to those seafood rich waters is pointless if you can’t sell it.

  12. If you’ve got it, the important question is to whom you can sell it for best profit?

The French and Belgians aren’ t the only possible markets.

  13. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politic...unces-divorce-wife-frances-21-years-marriage/

“Former chancellor George Osborne and his author wife Frances are to divorce after 21 years of marriage, it has been announced.

A statement on behalf of the Evening Standard editor said the pair remain "good friends" and "jointly devoted" to their two children, Liberty and Luke, but had mutually decided to split.

The statement issued on Monday evening said: "George and Frances Osborne have sadly decided to divorce after 21 years of marriage.

"This is a long thought-through and mutual decision. They remain good friends and jointly devoted to their wonderful children.

"For the sake of their children, they ask that the family's privacy is respected. Neither George nor Frances will be making any comment."...”

    When “leave means leave” :D

  15. On a green note: would it be better if we scale back fishing in UK waters to allow fish stocks to recover further.
