To a certain extent yes. Such as wine, but it doesn’t work with the big ticket items BMW Mercedes Audi VW Ducati Fiat And so on. Will it hurt both ways? Yes. Will it hurt us more than them? https://ukandeu.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/What-would-trading-on-WTO-terms-mean-Long-Guide.pdf And what’s the budget proposal to protect British farming and fishing under no deal? WTO tariff on imported car is about 10% WTO tariffon exported oil is 3%
I will try and read that later. The car argument ( and even motorcycles ) I don’t believe is a good one to use. I for one don’t really care about what are, to me, expensive luxury items. My point really is countries will still want to trade with each other.
The car argument is a false argument. For the last few years we have been buying less and less cars, ever noticed car plants shutting down around the world? Same with motorcycle sales. We are trading less and less with eu nations year on year. That doesn't mean we should stop trading with them but more it is not the power house it once was and people negotiating with them know they have lost one of their best purchasing assets
I regularly have a Scottish pie or a Scottish egg. I never ordered Scottish the drink because Scots rarely, if ever use the word when ordering whisky. To me, calling my favoured whisky “Scottish” would be like calling lasagne Italiano. Feel free to use it in reference to appropriate inanimate objects. It’s what the word is for
Most German cars are sold to fleets for use as company cars. The lease cost is most affected by depreciation so a 10% increase in the cost of the car due to import duty won’t make much difference to the lease cost per month. The only thing that will stop me having a BMW will be a Mercedes
Are you suggesting that we should stay in the EU in order to ensure that folk who can afford to buy a new Mercedes don't have to "settle for less"? Cos I'm not sure how much traction your idea will get, generally speaking.
