British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Or even an archetype?

  2. Is loz in the desert, i.e.sand or desert i.e. apple crumble?

  3. Not Judging, only my forays into the desert didn't involve sightings of supermarkets that would stock Christmas chocolates :D

  6. The statistics do not support your statement.
Note,”since the 1970s”.when we joined the EU coincidentally:
    UK Manufacturing Statistics
Manufacturing contributes £6.7 trillion to the global economy. Contrary to widespread perceptions, UK manufacturing is thriving, with the UK currently the world’s eighth largest industrial nation. If current growth trends continue, the UK will break into the top five by 2021. In the UK, manufacturing makes up 11% of GVA, 44% of total UK exports, 70% of business R&D, and directly employs 2.6 million people.

Despite the decline since the 1970s, when manufacturing contributed 25% of UK GDP, the UK is currently the ninth largest manufacturing nation in the world.

Overall, the UK’s industrial sector has increased by 1.4% a year since 1948, according to a recent report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS attributes the sustained growth to a better quality; more skilled workforce; a shift in production from low to high productivity goods; improvements in automation and technology; increased investment in R&D, and a more integrated global economy.

According to Make UK (formerly EEF), UK manufacturing currently:

    • employs 2.7 million people – earning an average of £32,500
    • contributes 11% of GVA
    • accounts for 45% of total exports – totalling £275bn
    • represents 69% of business research and development (R&D)
    • provides 13% of business investment

  7. This is just typical of the doom and gloom narrative.

In fact the headline and tone used within the article itself is simply dishonest, just as much as the dishonest shit they complain about coming from any leave group, of which there definitely is, and they wonder why people recite that 'fake news' slogan.

How can data showing growth, not matter whether its a mere 0.3%, be misconstrued to the headline of the worst July on record?

"UK retailers experience worst July since sales records began
Total sales increase by 0.3%, according to data compiled by the British Retail Consortium

British retailers have recorded the worst month for sales in July since records began, as consumers tighten their belts with Brexit approaching"

It really is 6 of one and half dozen of the other.

  8. EU officials: No basis for further UK Brexit talks https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-49240809

The EU are saying they won’t change the deal, that’s it. I think they have said that before - but didn’t they say they’d only renegotiate if there was a change from the U.K. side. If they are sticking to that then it’s Leave or remain, and Corbyns pledge negotiating a better deal is worthless too.

I also like the ‘Britain is Desperate’ sub heading - which turns out to be a comment from an ex US treasury secretary.

  11. R+D is Production, your manufacturing Ideas to sell.
its worth pointing out again that only 25% of our economy up here is built on banking and services. it might also be worth pointing out that 5 of the worlds top universities of which conduct R+D, are up here also.
when/if there is a down turn in manufacturing guess who gets hit the worst?. i can only imagine how its gonna feel for those affected by it that didn't vote for it on mass. actually i don't have to imagine it. I've seen the latest polling.

  12. That won't surprise many. Given they were just trying their luck and hoped no one would call their bluff.

Funny thing on the fishing side that many remainers seem to be avoiding talking about, this map shows you the legally recognised fishing boundaries of the U.K. and the E.U.

Should there be no deal, eu fishing fleets will no longer be allowed to fish in the red U.K. waters

Now the republic, already suffering from the eu -south america deal and 99,000 extra tonnes of Beef a year coming into the eu and the U.S. now been given a foot in the door to start pushing in 39,000 tonnes of beef a year also, will now see those same eu fishing fleets that will be barred from U.K. waters, will now aim squarely at the republics fishing waters identified as the eu blue waters.

Very little is being mentioned about the republics fishing fleet or the inability to stop the thousands of eu boats that will now descend onto the republics fishing grounds and the impact on the republics fleet

  13. I'm presently preparing myself for Brexit and am having this for lunch (it's not mine but nicked out of the 'works kitchen')
