British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

  16. This would sound believable were it not for

Only 7 eu countries willing to meet their agreed nato contributions
    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/03/14/politics/nato-defense-spending-target/index.html

And Germany, the engine of the eu, is now more than ever, dependent on Russian gas and oil
    https://www.dw.com/en/nord-stream-2...rmanys-energy-dependence-on-russia/a-47344788

Where is the strategic value of not being afraid enough of russia to meet your nato obligations and being in russias grip over oil and gas?

  17. As in the EU being something like a newer and friendlier USSR?

  18. Sort of a bit of both as the accession criteria still need to be met

  19. That’s a narrow view. I’m not just thinking in military terms as NATO is the past and an EU army (de facto or de jure, it doesn’t matter) is the future

For example. Just look at a map - bringing the Balkans into the fold more or less completes the EU’s sea border. Sea borders are much easier to police than land borders and so it would help plug a hole via which drugs and that bete noir of the right, illegal immigrants from the African continent arrive on the shores of Europe (after which they just need to get into Greece and they’re in the EU)
