British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Referendums are easily ignored.

A GE is what is required. People who want to Remain in the EU will vote LibDem, people who don't care whether we stay in or not will vote Lab/Tory and those who want to Leave will vote The Brexit Party.

The result will tell us what we want to know, in no uncertain terms. And it's not like the establishment will ignore the result of a GE, right?

  3. Make it (them) legally binding.
    I can't argue with that.

Yes, all I am saying is what about if I want to leave the EU but don't want to see Tories / Brexit Party in government.
Referendum(s) to sort out Brexit then a GE.

  4. Pretty much all of them then :)

  5. IF the opposition were smarter ( big IF) then they could turn around their fortunes at a GE. By casting doubt on why Boris and gang did not hold course to get their EU/Tory/ERG agreement through, with a short delay. Maybe they will after GE threat..?
Big question has to be what is their game? Hard Brexit..or delay and stay. I suspect hard Brexit or just brinkmanship.
People are so sick now that there is a real risk of just accepting anything just to end this saga.

  7. After all the cr@p the Conservatives have dealt the UK population over the last ten years, I cant vote for them.
Thing is, Corbyn...Libdibbles? Going to be hard to put an X on a ballot paper for me if we have an election.

  8. The Referendum, assuming even if WTO Leave is on the ballot and wins, won't be acted upon. It will serve no purpose whatsoever.
But no. Any further Referendum will have Remain and Remain-disguised-as-Leave on the ticket.
    Useless either way.

If the Electorate actually recognise who and what the Tories and Labour are, neither Party would retain many seats. If the electorate is paying attention, we'd see LibDems and The Brexit Party forming Government and Opposition, or vice versa. If the electorate wants to live in a democracy, they will vote for the Parties they believe will say what they mean and mean what they say - Lab and Tories plainly and obviously do neither.

Alas, the sheeple of this country will just choose quiet life over upheaval. They will, in fact, get the Government they deserve.

  9. 2 referendums, legally binding. Leave / Remain and then if leave wins Leave deal / leave no deal.

Perhaps the Lib Dems and Brexit party can form a coalition government :D

Still don't think it is what people deserve, if you vote for a party and they don't do what they promised all you can do is wait for the next GE.

  10. break up the uk. you guys get what you want, we can take our own path.

  11. There is the rub though, Conservative party lost so much ground last time, they lost their majority. They did not get approval for their mandate.

The Brexit question though, and the shape it takes was always bigger than just one parties viewpoint.
Genuinely I think we need real choices.
I cant argue that multiple choice, ie Leave no deal, Remain, Leave with deal could split the vote unfairly. Asking leave or remain, pointless.

Your two referendums makes too much sense surely for politicians to go for it. It would take away control from the Conservative party. They could never accept that, certainly the ERG element would not.

  13. I'm sure Nadira Singh's next move will be to refute the result of a G.E. if it doesn't go the way she wants. Maybe the electorate didn't know what they were voting for for?
