British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. No, absolutely not! How can someone vote for Indi if they are anti EU (as many were) if there is a referendum on only 2 options - the SNP clearly want to stay in the EU. It is a little more complicated than black and white is what I am saying and needs a 3 way referendum. The problem for the SNP being that it will likely mean a remain vote for the UK union if split 3 ways.

  2. yip. it makes it harder for them. and attepting to save england from themselvs has cost them support. but they will still vote indi come the day.

  3. I would have thought a reasonable way forward would be for either:
EU to guarantee Scotland entry without the usual conditions prior to the referendum therefore creating Leave UK & join EU
and this together with simple Leave the Union & Remain inside the Union.

Or Leave the Union & Remain inside the Union and if joining the EU becomes a certainty another referendum would take place.

I don't think the SNP should promise something that is not actually confirmed as an option.

On the subject of guessing what the outcome of a 3 way referendum could be:
67% of Scots voted for the UK to Remain in EU,
The SNP are expected to win more seats in the GE in a few weeks
The SNP is widely known to voters to be very pro EU

I'm not a betting man but I wouldn't be betting the farm on the Scots choosing to Remain in the Union right now.

  4. But the SNP only tout for remaining in the EU when they speak  33% anti EU would not vote for Indi which would falsely skew the results - back to a 3 way as the only option I think :)

  5. You might be right. Both points of view would be satisfied by a first referendum to confirm the Scots wished to proceed to change their current standing in the Union. If so two years could be allowed for a Deal with the EU to be agreed, and a confirmatory second referendum would be mandatory to confirm the Scottish -people now in possesion of the facts- to choose between all three options.

  6. That would work - we have, with a little debate, fixed all Finm's woes :):upyeah:

  11. In the context of the Brexit vote, if you recall I -amongst others- suggested a second vote with the three known options. It would then be exactly as above ^^^ as we have already had the first...

  12. No - I thought wrong!

Haven't you got some colouring to do?

  16. Yes, you had a silly 3 option idea and I suggested 2 more referendums to solve it.
I think it was partly in the context of ‘no one knew what they were voting for’ in the first one.

  17. In theory

Round one would be, "Do you wish to remain part of the U.K. Yes or No"

If they voted No and voted to leave the U.K. then the next referendum would be three questions?
Do you wish to join the eu
do you wish to join efta
do you wish to remain as an independent Scotland

  18. Not really. Go back and look!

The context is the same. No one knew what the options were with Brexit either. Now we do, so Fcuk off/ Fcuk with a deal/ Don't Fcuk off are the same scenario.

  19. You're okay Al, the U.K. only required one as it was a simple leave or stay, Scotland on the other hand is leave or stay the U.K. but then also.....stay independent or join the eu in some form so two goes, greedy fecks

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  20. I’ll never find it. :)

Surely neither of us has the energy to go through the how many / what options discussion again.

How about a single option referendum ?
