So Labour are attempting to name their price for part nationalising BT, something that they've not yet discussed with BT, then offering out basic fibre speeds (widely accepted to be circa 36-50mbs) to all houses & business for 'FREE' and then they stand there saying it won't cost people jobs? How can anyone take this party seriously? Genuine question? First up, you cannot cost up this plan without first entering into negotions with the company in question and agreeing a price, unless everyone thinks its fine for the government to simply take what it wants, at the price it wants, whenever it wants. Secondly, how can it not incur job losses? What about every other competitor broadband provider in the uk, the 10000's of call centre staff, the 1000's of engineers, the 1000's of marketing departments, the accounts teams, the sales teams? Presumably we're to sit here and believe that not only will Labour take part ownership of BT, but when everyone in the country makes the decision to stop paying their existing provider because the 'free' fibre speeds provided are deemed adequate enough, and for 99% the 36-50mbs speeds will be, they'll also take on all of the people being made redundant from the competition they've just wiped out? Look, i get it, they've offered something thats useful to everyone as we all use it, lovely. But it isn't going to be 'free' at all. These bunch of anti business mathematically challenged retards will genuinely screw the UK's economy. Free mortgage payments next, free car insurance, fuck it free cars and all electric, free everything.........until theres nobody left to tax. Absolutely mental party
good on him for making a few bob without making the headlines outside of politics. something we all aspire to do. good on him for recognising and producing policies that work up here. and turn a profit.(without giving us the credit for) there is always a but tho. either he is really badly briefed and being new to the job was something I was prepared to accept after some of the claims he made on his first visit up here as leader. several years later and as the campaign goes on, and the more he opens his mouth, the more I feel he aint fit to scrape the shit from my boots. old labour, old lies. fuck him.
He’s also got a bigger cock. I know a former Czech diplomat who reckons they stood next to Corbyn at the urinals in the Kremlin in the 70s, and they said it was like one of those marrows he grows on his allotment. He also has that iconic image of Che Guevara tattooed on his lower back, like a tramp stamp, apparently. But, nice one. You’ve just ensured that Trump will now consider that Johnson is a “loser” and will switch his allegiance to JC. Seriously though, what’s your source for the Johnson figure? I thought it sounded fishy, so I did a quick google and it appears in various places but the source appears to be here, which simply makes the claim but provides no evidence. So I think it’s safe to say they probably just made it up https://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-politicians/boris-johnson-net-worth/ This article on BJ’s net worth is a bit more nuanced https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....son-actually-afford-to-be-prime-minister/amp/ I also came across an interesting quote (in the BJ loving Express btw) that in 2009 he’d described his Telegraph salary of £250,000 PA as “chicken feed”
Oh cmon, be honest with yourself at least. This isn't about whether the Tories are great, yes they tightened the purse strings but the reasoning is widely accepted they had to because of the previous Labour government. Perhaps they went too far, I'm not going to sit and defend them i can assure you But this current Labour lot are something else, its genuinely scary shit. Just think about it, not with the retired hat on, but as someone who works and pays tax (i know you've done your bit ok), then as someone who works and pays tax at any of the competing broadband suppliers other than BT. Do you think they're confident their job would remain after such a ridiculous pledge by Corbyn? Watch the stocks drop on the broadband providers today. You cannot just bully or steamroller business just because you want what they have or their money. Investment will dry up, Corbyn will be seen as such a wild card i guarantee unemployment will rise, the level deemed as 'rich' will gradually drop. Today anyone who earns £80k is apparently rich, next year it'll be £50k, then £30k, then 45-50% tax on practically everyone just to keep the wheels greased because of the 'socialist dream' . Its fucking bonkers
The difference is however that this will be as a result of well meaning stupidity rather than cynical market manipulation, and so Corbyn’s mates won’t have been shorting their stock after receiving a tip off about this announcement. It’ll be interesting to see what Boris’ response will be as I thought his economic philosophy was very firmly, and I quote, “fuck business”?
Oh i have absolutely no doubt Corbyn doesn't realise what effect his plans and/or statements would have on stock markets, and I'm afraid thats just another reason to question the viability of the man as far as I'm concerned. But i agree, he isn't doing it cynically or to make personal gain, at least i really really hope not. Nonetheless, it shows the most incredible level of naivety from him and McDonnell.
That's our big difference Damo, your acceptance of the capitalist system as the only way our society can be . Mine a vision not a dream of a fairer society where everyone shares the spoils or suffers together when things go tits up.
I was under the impression brexiteers don't give a ferk about the stock exchange. SOVERIGNTY! and foreigners.
Surely though if decisions are henceforward and forevermore to be taken on the basis of economics alone and not political principle, then we should be staying in the EU? Discuss* * Limited to 2,000 pages
I appreciate we probably see things different for whatever reason, and truth be told if i genuinely thought the world would all change at the same point so that wealth and standard of living would even out and all of us could lead comfortable lives i suppose I'd be in. But its just not realistic, not in my opinion at least. Corbyn is very anti wealth (questionable considering his own) and seen as anti business (quite rightly judging by his frankly naive pledges and tax threats). The country needs business, to give people jobs, so they can pay tax, and the business pays tax, and shit gets sold, to generate more tax (VAT) and on and on and on. When someone like Corbyn spooks business they will, without question, see alternative countries and markets as safer and easier places to make money. So back to my first paragraph, unless everyone in the world all of a sudden sings to the same tune then this current bunch in Labour are just seems as crack pots. I mean just look how flip flopping they are on everything, Brexit, Scottish ref, immigration. Multiple position changes in the last week alone. They're just not stable and business won't like that.
Worth working towards perhaps ? Tories have flip flopped somewhat too though, it's all spend, spend spend from them now.
Working towards is fine, and that's what the centre ground is for, a more sensible outlook perhaps and I'd be on board. As for the Tories, as much as this sounds like a defence I assure you it isn't, but they've been far more consistent with messaging, which is itself amazing really when you think about the bollocks they've said, and so that also shows just how inconsistent labour have been. They're on a whole new level of crazy
