So, it looks like "Torys are Us" have been funding all those beautiful tax cuts with borrowing, cos they've not been spending the money borrowed on NHS, Police, Education, Infrastructure etc. So it looks like we're all paying for the tax cuts which everyone who benefits from the tax cuts says generates more tax. In conclusion, as much as I dislike Corbin and Abbott (especially Abbot) if anyone is going to fuck over the country I'd rather they do it spending on stuff for everyone and not just on tax cuts. TB

I'm just going to pick on one point here and that's because its the one I'm most familiar with. The NHS wastes more money than it uses. It is poorly run by people lining their own pockets and if it was a private business it would have gone bust in no time. My other half is a nurse in the ophthalmic department. She left the NHS to work for a private company as an agency nurse as she was so disillusioned with the NHS. The company is paid by the NHS to take up the slack. She gets paid £250 per day plus travel expenses and overnight hotel accommodation over a certain travel distance. The consultant gets paid £300 per patient for the first 8 patients, £600 per patient for the next 8 and more than that for any more patients, he normally does 20-24 cataract operations per day and works two days at the weekend. There is a whole team working with him and I have only quoted the figures I know but the weekend including other staff and admin is a ridiculous amount. This is just the ophthalmic department in one region and this is happening in all departments across the country. Throwing more money at the NHS will never improve the service unless it has a complete shakeup from the top down and that will never happen.
As an aside. When the consultants do cataract operations for the NHS they only do about 8 operations per day.
I see the point your making. However, for all its faults it is free for everyone. I'm not aware of a similar service that operates more efficiently. I hope your not proposing a USA style of health care. TB
that was a description of your NHS btw. everyone is competing with each other with no joined up thinking. Dr Philippa Whitford gives a great explanation why the increasing privatisation in England leads to higher costs for less productivity and quality of care.
