I had reason to see the docs earlier in the week and saw someone I'd never seen before. My own gp is off on maternity leave. My surgery has 6 gp's listed, one has retired, 2 are off on maternity leave leaving 3 left. The chap I saw, it was difficult to put a finger on it but it didn't feel "medically" I've got to contact them again tomorrow so looked up at their home web page and saw the three doctors and two "Practice based Paramedics" which seem to be replacing the 2 lady gp's on maternity leave. It seems the use of practice based paramedics was initially to assist surgeries with home visits as many were older or long term sick that required little new other than monitoring. It seems for some, they appear to be using practice based paramedics instead of docs and the training is far less than that of a gp and would seem to be cheaper than a locum. I suspect the chap I saw the other day was a one of those practice based paramedics who was not aware of the plan myself and my gp had put in place so will be discussing this with the gp tomorrow
Watch out, Nicola! Tories SURGE in Scotland - SNP look over their shoulders Watch out, Nicola! Tories SURGE in Scotland - SNP look over their shoulders The poll revealed a Conservative surge of seven points, holding 28 percent of the vote. The Panelbase poll of 1,009 voters in Scotland pointed to a collapse in support for Labour since the 2017 general election, from 27 percent to 20 percent. The news of a Scottish Conservative bounce have dashed Jeremy Corbyn’s hope Scottish voters could help him lead the biggest party at Westminster. Sorry for the font... Its a cut n paste without any manipulation. ... a first for this thread?
don't get too excited just yet. after 12years the SNP vote is up too. that's the unionist vote after the collapse of the Brexit party. and is roughly in line with those that want an end to devolution. Brexit is separating the wheat from the chaff. the poll was also taken before the last leaders debate too. not to shabby considering the press they get. I guess they are gonna need another scandal. and its coming. the result will leave us with another 5 years or 5mins? of 5-10 tory MP's being seen to act against the majority and pull us out of Europe. tick tock.
Not free ? and when replying I hope your not the kind of person that brings me problems instead of solutions. TB
There isn't enough money in the World that will induce me to accept anything relating to that diseased piss flap. Not free. It costs money. The solution is money. There you go!
Nobody would suggest that the UK should consider a "USA style" healthcare approach. However, you'd be pushed to find any other country that operates things as the UK does, and surely it would make sense to conduct a thorough review and comparison of a wider range of approaches, starting with other European countries, none of which are anything like the USA in this respect. One system that could also be studied to see what can be learned is that of Israel, where the system was designed much more recently than ours (1990s vs 1940s). On the face of it, they spend less than us and have better outcomes, but it's a complex subject. Academic discussion of UK/USA/Israel comparison here (purely the result of a quick google search): http://eprints.bournemouth.ac.uk/24883/2/Anderson_TNS_presentation_20101316.pdf
Within the topic of this thread, who to vote for on the 12th, which party is most likely to undertake the review you speak of. TB
The NHS is a money pit used almost exclusively for political point scoring. It's a great thing to have and accessible health care for uk citizens is, and probably should be, expected. But it's ran like a blank cheque and continously throwing money at it is just idiotic. It needs a top down reconstruction
sort of agree. But maybe it needs to come from the ground up and not the other way. All that ever seems to happen is more money spent on management. It needs a full re structure, then it must have more indians, less chiefs. For many years now it has been a top heavy structure with lots of cars in office car parks, all on subsidised contract hire schemes..
its only top heavy because you have lots of private companies running it. with lots of managment competing with each other.
You know what? I reckon it doesn't really matter which party gets into No.10. We are all still going to get stuffed by whoever wins.
