it was a fair comment. the north of England is traditionally labour supporting. people I think will understand what was meant.
But the crunch is on. In my neck of the woods, the Conservatives took the areas around the cities, compressing the Labour support into the areas of high population density. The outlying areas around the cities have turned blue on the map and you can move closer to the city now and be sitting in a Conservative held seat than before. Out of interest, in the early days of the SNP success, did the seed start in the cities where Socialist policies sit better and gradually expand out into the countryside? It would be interesting to know but I doubt it found it's voice with the cattle farmers 1st.
the cattle farmers (and boat owners) are amongst the wealthiest in the uk, traditionally they are liberal and tory voters. being a lil late to the party, im a lib/lab voter, I aint overly sure where they grew from. they used to be known as tartan torys until alex salmond took the party to the center left in 1975. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole until it was becoming obvious that what was being reported was the opposite from what I was seeing.
