They will never make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time. They do ask, it's called democracy and voting.

The EU philosophy is that non elected leaders know best even when that is against the will of the people.

The majority of voters supported the Tories under her leadership for a good while,so not everyone agreed with you. Her undoing was giving in to the Poll tax rioters,(who were naturally supported by Militant and various trade unions),it showed she was vulnerable. I still think that every individual should pay their share towards civic services,and as the Tories had clearly stated in their manifesto that the Domestic rating system was going to be reformed she should have stuck to it. Probably the same people rioting then are demonstrating against democracy now.
It was her own party that got rid of her as she became a threat to that very same elite aristocracy that own and run the country.
