British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. You know what finm, I for one wouldn't be happy if Scotland decided to go it alone and leave the UK.

Not because I can't understand the reasoning because I'm sure the Scottish have had a rough ride over the years. But I'd like to think things were going the right way, and that Scotland was being treated more fairly than it had in the past, maybe not where you want it yet, but it's getting there slowly and surely

I just think leaving would drive a further wedge between the nations and instead of it being banter, I'd worry it would get substantially more personal for no reason.

Forget Scotland joining, or remaining part of the EU, as I genuinely don't believe you'd benefit. If I did then I wouldn't believe that the UK itself would benefit by leaving, and i do. This nonsense about the UK not accepting any immigration is farcical, of course we will, it'll just be quota based in some way shape or form.

I just think now isn't the right time to look at another referendum. It's knee jerk and too early to tell which way you'd benefit most.

Personally, if I were Scottish, I'd keep my powder dry and save the decision for a later date.

Sticking by and working with your longest standing partners (the UK) is the most sensible route imo, let's face it, you'll always have the joker card in the back pocket and be able to vote for independence later on and then decide if the EU is in the shape worth joining, if it even exists in its current state at all.

Better the devil you know mate and besides, Scotland has a fair amount of exports worldwide, wouldn't you be in the least bit intrigued to see how wider reaching trade deals might benefit Scotland?

It's not like the exports to the EU regions would dry up, can't imagine many of them are that good at making the stuff you guys do

Ps - that poll would look a bit different imo if ran during a summer month and not in the notoriously depressing time straight after Christmas. It's shite weather, gloomy and the poll reads overly negative.

Just my 2p on that :)

  2. nothing we havent voted for or deserved
mate.... this is gonna kick off. but i hear yah. but. another time.:upyeah:

  3. Just save the vote, don't reject the option, save it

Think of it this way, can you imagine leaving the UK and joining the EU

The EU fails or at the very least ruins you economically to the point that more than 50% of your population want a vote to return to the UK...... Imagine going cap in hand back to Westminster...urggh, it'd be unthinkable.

Just hold off, keep those boarders open as I want to bring the Superduke up :)

  8. I think you misunderstood the 'cap in hand' reference.

It sincerely wasn't meant to offend, it was meant to give a reason to hold out on a decision which could ruin your country.

I'm saying that wanting to rejoin the UK would simply be unthinkable to many, and by your response it would seem I'm not wrong in that assumption, especially after voting to leave the UK and joining the EU block instead.

BUT, the facts are you have that decision to make at any time, and making such a huge decision now with not knowing what the future trade deals may bring to your country seems the wrong way to go about it.

You could votenow and decide to join the EU, that'd give you status quo at best, 'possible' economic issues at worse due to the euro zone failings.

All im saying is should that end up being the case then what? I doubt nearly 50% of Scots would want to remain with the EU and so the only option would be to return to the UK in the future wouldn't it?

So perhaps 'cap in hand' is the wrong reference, but either way returning back to the UK would feel a little humbling at the very least I'm sure, as it would for the UK to return to the EU in the future.

The way I see it you guys have the opportunity to wait and pick your side when things progress further. It's a good position to be in and so if I were Scottish I'd wait it out.

  9. He's horrific isn't he (lib dem chap, not finm)

It's just such idealistic policy and frankly out of touch half of the time.

  10. I did try as I'm not hungover this morning, although it seems even trying to be as neutral and supportive as possible I still managed to somehow upset a Scotsman this morning :)

Oh well, I'll keep trying, might buy some haggis later to show support for the economy, it's really nice with gravy and a good Sunday dinner alternative

  11. Indeed, and remind me who Scotland's biggest export partner is ;)

  12. I'm not a fan, I've tried many times but it just reminds me of a bad experience stealing from my late fathers cabinet when I was a young nipper. Vomit on a whole new level

  14. Junker I'd say, judging by the state he gets in I'd say he was single handedly propping up the entire Scottish producing industry
