Given the current egg problem from Holland that was known about since last November, it would seem the eu are doing what they claim others cannot do and is not acceptable

I don't know about anyone else but when I've gone to the states I've eaten what they eat and never had an issue and I suspect most tourists still eat chicken and bread over there too

To all my Brit friends, worried about #Chlorine washed #Chicken... I'm sorry to tell you, but that is just the tip of the iceberg lettuce. Let me be clear; I love this country (USA) and the people who live here, it's a great place to live.

But...

If you let the UK make a trade deal with the USA that includes Agriculture you will have to drop so many of the safeguards that makes British food so much better than American food. The quality of food here is terrible. I'm a foodie, and a cook. I am British and now live in the USA and I can tell you with authority that the quality of food in the EU and the UK is just orders of magnitude better than the food in America.

Any trade deal between UK & USA will have to have equitable food standards or one party is at an unfair advantage over the other. There is NO WAY the USA will be willing to raise its standards to match the EU, it's a race to the bottom, not the top.

Lowering UK food standards so that American food producers can sell their food into the UK will exclude UK food from any EU agriculture trade deal as the UK food will no longer be safe enough for Europeans to eat.

Do not let America sell you Meat, Produce or Dairy. Anything 'fresh' or frozen here is a pale imitation of the food I was used to in the UK. Eggs, Milk, Cheese, Chicken and Minced Beef are especially bad. A lot of it is unsafe to eat unless cooked to temperatures that ruin it. Egg's are from un vaccinated Chickens, salmonella is a real fear here. Chickens almost always have black bones from the bruising they receive during processing peri-mortem. Dried/ Packaged/ Canned food is all over-sugared (corn syruped), over salted and has far more chemicals than UK/EU food.

If you are an environmental sort... Consider the food miles on a chicken grown in the USA, shipped to China for processing, shipped back to the USA for distribution and then shipped to the UK for sale. It has to be frozen for all of that time, it'll never be fresh.

If they can sell that to you for the same or less than you buy fresh chicken now, think about how much money they had to shave off the welfare of the animal, the wages of the people handling it and the safety standards thay had to lower to keep it profitable

Im sorry mate but this is just another hyped up, over exaggerated statement that shows zero sign of appreciation of what drives market demand, consumer choice and a whole range of other things.

Its just yet another classic case of a negative aspect of 'a possible outcome' being used by the side of remain voters doing nothing more than trying to force their issue in a snide a crude way to achieve worry, uncertainty and frankly bollocks.

Its ill thought out shit like this thats the cause for any market slow down in consumer confidence (no not necessarily the chickens), but the continued negative spin put on everything with very little substance to back it up.

For a start, what makes you think that Chicken, or food will be high up on the agenda of what we decide to import/trade with America on?

The consumer choice of Chickens in America will be vast and it doesn't mean they're all the same level of quality. Even still, if you so wished to make a purchase decision that includes things treated with chlorine, it's already been pointed out to kill germs and is widely used in the UK, Tap water being one.

So, you, me and nearly every other Guardian esq journo writing about sodding chickens has contact with products that utilise Chlorine.

Now, back to food stuffs, consumer choice and therefore basic common sense. In any supermarket in the UK there are a range of choices you can make, even when it comes to Chicken.

Ridiculous statements and exaggerations such as this seem to assume that choice will be removed, or that the extremely well ran multi million £ businesses such as the 'Big 4' will somehow be strong-armed or coerced in to replacing some of their highest selling meat product, from sources their customer base is happy with, and somehow overnight switch people to something new which has already received negative press?

That would be a business decision made by an imbecile, or one thought out by desperate people wanting to do anything in their power to cling to the EU using any tactic they can think of.

To make things even more simple and equally as farfetched, lets put the shoe on another foot for a minute

It would be like a news outlet in the States talking about doing food trade with the UK and when meat product was discussed they'd use a Pork Farms sausage roll and its manufacturing process, including its contents, to judge meat product in general from the UK.

So, in reality, its a stupid thing to even sit here talking about by anybody with an ounce of common sense. That is unless you have an ulterior motive to further knock consumer and public confidence, thus fuelling market slow down, to somehow apportion the blame of it on a vote you lost.

Thats the real story here, not chlorinated chickens, but a bunch of sore losers that somehow believe they're intellectually superior and patronise everyone that voted leave as though they're a bunch of knuckle dragging racist self harming retards.

Finally here's a piece written by The Grocer, and yes when it comes to the food you eat on a daily basis these guys are a far more reputable source than the left wing news papers or some pratt on Facebook.
